I just ordered this relay:
896H-1CH-D-001-12VDC

We will see how it works, but for $4, even if I have to change it out often, it is worth it.

I have a brand new stator on the bike with less then 400 miles on it, that shows an idle voltage of 12.1-12.3, how can it be to the point of failure? I should also note that the battery and voltage regulator were replaced with the stator.

no matter how few miles you have on new parts, they can still fail. those voltages are still abnormal so you have to look for failed parts. there are many points of failure in the charging system, and you have to run through the diagnostic tests to figure out which one is the culprit.

if they changed the battery, stator and vreg, but not the relay, and their service didn't solve the problem, that tells you something about their ability to identify the parts needing replacement. check the relay.

if this happened to me, i'd be taking the bike back to the shop and asking them to fix the right part and refund for the parts that were changed without need.

could it be that these guys are following the pre-harness diagnostic protocols, and they overlooked the relay entirely>?

Timebandit,
My confidence in their diagnostic abilities, is about zero.

They are very nice, and have extended my factory warrenty, which is cool.

They changed the stator, vreg and battery. Then they called an told me the bike was ready. I went to pick it up and when I turned it on the battery light was on. Needless to say I was PO'd.
They took the bike back and told me the factory had switched two wires, and that was creating a high resistance, i thought this was BS, but the bike was running better, no battery lights, so I drove it home.
Then it started dropping into the 11's again.
Now I think its the relay, so I ordered a new one, we will see.
But so far my experience with HD dealers has not been great.
