Awesome!

I'd say "setting a track record by half a second" is good proof that, in absolute terms, the bike is pretty damned good!

Awesome! a multi-year deal with EBR rocks as well! I Was fortunate enough to meet Mr. May and his wife at the SLC Utah WSBK/AMA races over memorial day weekend earlier this year while they were literally loading the truck. they took the time to BS with us for a good 15-20 minutes. They are super cool down to earth people. looking forward to EBR podiums in 2012

That's awesome to see an American built machine starting to hold its own on the track!

It will be interesting to see what the machine can do, once guys like Geoff (May) and Sean (Higbee)and others get the bike dialed in and solve a few of the teething issues. I saw that KTM is not sponsoring their race program this year, which is too bad. There hopefully will be a few RC8's and Panigale's racing this year nonetheless, so the twin field should be really entertaining.

Geoff and his wife are super-cool. I feel like a schmuck because I can't recall her name at the moment, but I met them both at NJMP. Geoff is a very cool guy to talk bikes with, and his wife can also hold her own quite well when surrounded by "gearheads".

And...she laughed and said she'd see what she could do when I told her she could contribute to the traction issues the bike was having - make Geoff eat more. More weight on board = traction aid ; )

My only worry...if the 1190 keeps posting numbers like Geoff and Shawn are putting up, the other teams WILL try to find a reason to ban it.

I'll kick in $50 for a case of "visor anti-fog" for the other teams. Anyone else?

There are no teething issues on the EBR 1190RS. It flat works out of the box, as Taylor's run in NJ showed. It is simply a matter of learning to set up the bike to get to the front of AMA Superbike. That is a very precise and time consuming task to get those last tenths in that caliber of class.

No offense intended - "teething" was intended to be consistent with Anon's post - as in getting the bikes tweaked to the rider's style and preferences. My post was more to the point that for "right out of the box" it is unusual to get the best possible performance that the machine can achieve, unless you're damn lucky.

"Optimizing" might be a good word to use. Meaning - working with provided hardware/software to maximize potential in the given operational environment(s).

Where do I sign up to help pull security on the coffee pot and clean tools at? : D

In the paddock, "teething issues" would typically mean the bike is not yet ready for prime time.

Ratbuell,

Have no such worries. There is absolutely no basis for any such concern, plus I really doubt any of the major Superbike teams are that petty. Factory Honda might be, but they haven't had a significant presence in AMA SBK for some time.
