Hey all another question ...any idea what the temp of the muffler reaches? I am fitting a Barker to the 1125r but would love to paint it. I can get a paint rated to about 560 degrees farenheit..would this work? | ||

I would go with the high temp stuff from autozone or something similar. The stuff I just got is rated up to 2000F. Just look around, otherwise, it'll just start flaking off in about fifteen minutes. That's what happened on my XB. | ||

stovepipe or BBQ paint at home depot has worked on my S1s D&D. Every couple of years solvent scrub and a fresh rattle. some of the fancier rattle can hightemps claim to be ceramic. | ||

I've had good luck with the duplicolor high temp engine paint from Advance Auto. Seems to last a little better than the BBQ paint, for what that's worth. | ||

I used high temp engine paint on mine. I was fine for 4/5ths of the muffler. The paint turned chalky white for about the first 6" where the headers come in. I guess it depends on what ECM you are running.I'm running the factory ECM. I know the race ECM's run a little cooler. The paint I used was supposed to be good for 500 deg. F. I tried Black Velvet and it failed immediately. I tried Rustoleum BBQ paint after sandblasting the whole can and it started rusting everywhere and chalked up where the headers dump the most heat. I gave up. I hear Jet Hot coating works. I've also seen an Eastwood product with a long wand that coats the inside...maybe that would help the paint last longer. | ||

I sent my stock muffler and pipes to Jet Hot and they are holding up perfectly. I had the pipes coated with their Sterling Silver and the muffler coated with a satin black. | ||

I had the XB and Ninja done by Jet Hot. 1125 done locally by a guy who does ceramic. Do difference that I can tell in quality. Don't get me wrong, love the work from Jet Hot and their customer service. But, like to support local shops when possible. Also done the BBQ paint and PJ1 route as well. Got tired of redoing it every other year. Plus, the wife didn't like me baking them in the oven to cure. Guess my point is look around locally. Mine was $85 for the can. Someone around the Cities should be a source. | ||

I have used Bill Hirsch Antique Gloss Black before on my old KZ header. It got toasted the first six inches or so out of the head, but other than that held up well. I would be curious to see how it holds up on the Buell can given it's distance from the heads. I am considering having my can ceramic coated. When I look back at my KZ and all the times I blasted and sprayed it, I would have been way ahead of the game by ceramic coating it from day one. I also went the local supplier ceramic coat path for $75, and that lasted three seasons instead of one. I would definitely check references before paying anyone to do the ceramic coat. | ||
