I have found the official OEM part numbers for the 12VDC accessory connector, M and F plugs. They are:

Sumitomo 6188-0047 (male)
Sumitomo 6189-0100 (female)

The problem is that I have looked high and low for a supplier, and I can't find both the male and female plugs.

I need extra plugs for a daisy-chain project, so wiring-up the end-cap that comes on the bike isn't an option. I need another complete set.

I would have expected that H-D would sell the replacement "end cap" for people who lose the original. But it seems that is not the case. : (

Anyone have a source?

edit: I had M/F part availability backwards in the original post.

You can buy both ends of the connector at any Buell dealer.

Or try an auto parts store, NAPA etc.

H-D? NAPA? You guys can't be serious.

There are several threads on this forum addressing lack of availability of the connector. Several people have looked for them, and the consensus of opinion is that they aren't available.

The only option for getting the male part from H-D has been to buy the Uly cigarette lighter kit, cannibalize the male part, and throw the rest of the kit away. The female part is just plain not available through H-D. Or do you know some secret that negates the info in all of the threads on the forum? Do you mean to say that they're all wrong?

Has the status on these parts dramatically changed, or are you guys just not aware of the situation?

I had to do a lot of digging to find the manufacturer's catalog and find the OEM part numbers. That information has never been available until I posted it.

I think you guys are off-base, but I'll be glad to hear if I'm wrong.

Just give the OEM part numbers you found to the dealer, they can order them up. They are listed in the parts manual, and will run you something like a dollar each end.

Took 15 seconds to find the Sumitomo website . . appears to be a bad number.

http://www.sumitomoconnector.com/

I'm going to try to cross reference. I suspect, if you don't get it through a dealer, you'll be subject to a $200 minimum.

But . . I see this note:

quote:

SumitomoConnector.com is a US distributor of Sumitomo Connectors. We stock many connectors and may be able to help you with the typical problem of manufacturers demanding unreasonable minimums for small projects.

Our sales staff is standing by to help you with any questions. Call us toll free at (804) 915-7201.

I'd giv'em a call.

I bought mine on Ebay. I got an entire connector set shipped to my door cheaper than I could find just the pins anywhere else.

That ebay link is for the ECM interface port, not the accessory connector.

Yeah, that is true. Hang on. I need to remember what series the accessory connector is. They are all on Ebay and about as cheap as you will ever find singles.

No, the Deutsch product is not the right part. According to the official Buell manuals the connector is made by Sumitomo.

The correct numbers are:

Sumitomo 6188-0047 (male)
Sumitomo 6189-0100 (female)

Sumitomo Catalog Page B-12.

I stand by my concept although my implementation was a bit off.

Search Ebay for "Harley connector". It looks like you can get just about any connector for ~$5 shipped. I see the accessory connectors in there.

I'll probably add them to the store, seems that there is a need.

On a related note, folks have asked about this a few times so I just added it:

I had a BMW accessory socket installed on my 1125R (just had one installed on the scooter too). All of my electric gear AND my battery tender have BMW plugs on them, so it was just easier that way.

Syonyk,

Not to try to talk you out of working with Al, but I would advise against a cigarette lighter style plug on a bike. I have found that my plugs tend to work their way loose due to the vibrations. Essentially the plug falls out of the socket every now and then.

I would go with a BMW style (powerlet) or SAE/coax if I was doing it again.

For just a radar detector, run a hardwire kit and use the "phone" line. Then you will have no worries about losing power and someone popping you.

Hm. That's a good point I hadn't considered. I should look into the options for the Escort - I hadn't even considered the plug bouncing out.

Not like I don't order enough stuff from American Sport Bike as-is... it's a bad place to visit right after payday.

I said it backwards when I said I could find the male and not the female. The problem is that I couldn't find both parts unless I wanted to order hundreds of units.

> See if this helps.

Yeah, I knew about that site. They're one of the places that comes up at the top of the google searches, but they can't supply both parts in single unit quantities.

It seems that there are sources for one of the plugs but not the other. I need both.

It would be sweet if Al could hook us up. I need to order some sliders and a damper from him anyway.

Ever wonder why those BMW accessory plugs are so hard to find? They sourced a part from a supplier you'd never expect. I found them at the John Deere dealership for about 1/3 the price.

Just buy the rig from Al and chop the lighter off. Or even better, just cut the Buell plug off and throw a weather pack on there.

Powerlet is all you need to know for plugging in accessories. MANY suppliers of their components.

For an escort:
https://www.escortradar.com/store/direct-wire-cord .html

Not suggesting that source, but just to give you an idea.

that recommendation doesn't help me at all.

buying the cigarette lighter only helps someone who wants to plug something into the existing accessory outlet. It doesn't help anyone who needs both male and female connectors.

Timebandit,

I gave a better suggestion for someone needing both...go to the autoparts store and use Metripack connectors. They are waterproof, small, and can be handled with a pair of needle-nose pliers and solder successfully.

Are the Metripack connectors plug-compatible with the OEM parts on the Buell? If so that solution is a good one. If they're not plug-compatible then it's a no-go.

What I need for the application is an exact plug-compatible match to the OEM Buell connectors. I need to unplug the original M/F Buell connectors and interpose a circuit between the existing connectors. This requires an M/F set of OEM-type Buell connectors. Nothing else will work.

Even though I like oranges, for this application I need apples.

I thought that was pretty clearly identified in the original post.

I need a source for the exact connectors used on the Buell 1125 accessory circuit. The OEM part numbers are:

Sumitomo 6188-0047 (male)
Sumitomo 6189-0100 (female)

Looking at pictures, it appears that the Metri-Pack connectors aren't plug-compatible.

It's not.

We've found a host of sources . . . and each time you find something lacking.

I may be misunderstanding but I'd have had the parts in hand within a day. I may have had to toss a few excess pieces but we're talking about $2 and $3 stuff as best I can tell.

I'd be really surprised if there were more than a couple OEM Buell parts you couldn't order from a dealer.

Best of luck with your project . . . I'm glad you brought it up as I went crazy and bought a couple spares of everything including a host of spare cables for the Zumo 550.
