I was just called by my local dealership(after dropping off my CR for the 3rd time with charging issues), they said the tech line says the battery light coming on at a light is normal operation on my bike. Really???!!! If it were normal, wouldn't it have done it since day one? They say their hands are tied and cannot do any repairs to the charging system. What should I do now??? I don't blame the dealership. They are just doing what they are told at this point. |

At what operating conditions does the battery light come on? |

My stator went out around 12,000 miles. Harley replaced it and I get a battery light fairly often now, never did before. I just keep riding it, never had a problem starting. I'm over 15k now. Maybe its a lower output, I don't know. I ride my bike very little in town, but that's the only time I get the light, out on the highway it works great so far. Oh yea mine is an 09CR. |

Samg, the light comes on after I have been riding on the hwy or town, just after sitting at a light for a few seconds. Then if I shut it off to get gas after riding, it does not want to start and gives a low voltage error. The dealer has replaced the battery once, and another time they yanked the sub harness. |

After you get gas, does it crank at a normal rate and not start? |

I would just disconnect the harness fix and see what happens, |

@Samg, it cranks super slow the stops cranking all together. If I let it sit, then it will crank fine. @Brumbear, the harness fix was removed by the dealer. |

Bad grounds, perhaps? Are you running with high beams on constantly? On my 08, I've upgraded my high beams to 55W bulbs, and will see a low voltage light if it idles with them on for a while. |

+1 Syonyk out here in the heat of the SWest - starting the bike up after filling it with gas was embarrassing sometimes...I added a 4ga wire (a starter cable for '60s Ford...appox 30-40" long) from the ground stud down by the swing arm under the shock - routed up and over the shock past the cylinders (rt side)and bolted to engine block using a mounting bolt for the starter (the cable is black - looks like another vacuum line or hose)...works well for helping out the starter in the "heat of the battle"...chk your grounds...there were some threads on the Ulysses forum that dealt with grounds on that model. good luck |

Devilbuell, That's BS. HD tech support told my dealer that the battery light was normal(under 5k rpms) and the dealer told HD tech support that's BS. My dealer found out two wires from the charging harness were reverse polarity. Don't believe HD tech support, they are a bunch of idiots. My dealer fought for me, and it took a while, but they got it fixed. |

Dktechguy112: Are you saying the "upgraded" harness had two wires that were actually tied to the opposite of what the print called out? That would be interesting to know. If the same person at XXXXX is making these upgraded harnesses, then anyone with an upgraded harness should check and see if that is what their problem STILL is. There has been some talk on this board about upgraded harnesses not making any difference and the bike owner reverting back to the original harness. Any chance your dealer documented any of what they found with the "upgraded" harness? |

They found that grey wire should go to pin 85 on relay, and black to pin 86. Those were reversed, and the relay was not doing anything. |

I conform that. Someone called Brian at Buell tech support, refused to replace VR on my bake, until the dealer replaced it and told to Brian that that solved the situation. Brian was telling the dealer that they should replace instrument cluster instead. Strangely, when I talked to Brian he said that he himself 09 CR owner. |

Mine is Oakland HD. Just check your harness, and see if the wires are reversed. There is a diagram in a service bulletin. |
