Last weekend somebody broke into our house while we were in st. louis for the weekend and took, well, pretty much everything. Including the spare key for my bike (and my last frozen pizza). They didn't touch the bike but it makes me nervous. I immediately put the bike in storage at a friend's house, but I want to rekey the bike.

I called my worthless dealer for a quote and they told me the part number and that they would call back with the labor quote, but it never happened.

Could somebody verify that what I need is Part #: C0290.1AT?

I want to rekey all three locks on the bike. Thanks

You will need a new ignition, gas cap, and seat lock. What bike do you have? The part number you provided is the set of locks for a 1125CR.

A good locksmith can make you a new key if you don't have anything at all to work with. Once you get the gas cap and seat lock open, replacement should be pretty easy. I don't have a parts manual handy, so I'm not much help there.

Oh I should have mentioned it's an 09 CR and I have my other key. I'm not worried about not being able to start it, just that those douchebags can start it also.

Froggy, is that all I would need to replace all 3 locks? They told me that part is only $110 which was less than I was expecting.

About the home break in... did your neighbors hear/see anything strange? Can you put a date and/or time to the break in?

Also... if they hit you when they knew you'd be gone... well, make a list of everyone you told and start asking some questions.

Does your home owners insurance cover theft/burglury? If so... have you contacted them? They might arrange the key change for free. State Farm does on my end. "...all keyed property contained within the premises.."

Good luck! Buy a shot gun.

My neighbors were actually the ones who called the police, but they did so about 15 hours after the break in. I don't trust my neighbors anymore cause there is no way they could kick in two doors and leave with as much stuff as they did without somebody noticing. I live in a kind of crappy neighborhood so it's not surprising.

I'm having a security system installed this week and our homeowners insurance is taking care of us on damage and lost property, but the adjustor said they probably won't pay for the re-key since that would be auto. I explained that they do my auto insurance as well and I assume they would rather have a 100 rekey cost than a stolen bike claim. Either way, they've been very helpful.

I have guns but they are still at my dad's farm, if they would have been in the house it would just be 2 more stolen items and 2 more guns in the hands of scumbags.

True, but my intent is that you might have issues again in the future and home invasion is a serious breach of personal property.

If it were me, I'd get everything taken care of and then fake a new trip in say a month or two. Talk about all the nice new stuff you got with the same folks you told earlier and stage a "trip" away.

Let the loved ones go on this trip and you stay behind in the dark and wait... I bet someone shows back up and this time you can ensure they see a jail cell.

Maybe I'm just a mean person, I've setup many an ambush in combat and this is no different. Thieves are terrible people... especially when they aren't caught or put away.

Talk to your local PD and see if there has been a theft spree going on. You might just have been the next target on their list.

I just helped a buddy of mine pack all his stuff in a storage room that didn't get stolen or destroid. All the spare keys to his bikes were stolen, among other things. This was the second time and the cops get one or two of the crack heads but there are others that know he has stuff and they come back when they get spun enough. He moved out and if you live somewhere and have been"discovered" I would do the same. You can kill them all but then you will be the one in jail.I know that sux but it is what it is and when you get on peoples radar like that it is what happens. You can even find all your stuff and where it is but sometimes it seems like the cops don't like you doing their job for them.It is a crap shoot.Relocate is my advice unless it is a family place or something.

If they break into your house in Texas, you have every right to shoot and potentially kill them.

Castle Doctrine, and it's a VERY good thing.

Agreed JD - I was born and raised there, and that doctrine is taken very seriously in my family.

Like I said, maybe I'm just mean, and being military that makes me WANT to defend what's mine. I know when to fight and when not to fight. Concerning the safety and protection of my family and assets, I will fight to the death.

Either way, I wish you the best in securing your property and ensuring the safety of your loved ones.
