Well folks.

I just don't know. When I first heard of the stators failing, I asked for the mode of failure. I thought maybe we had a bad batch of stators where the wire size was incorrect or the varnish was substandard. To this date I have not read anything about how the stators failed. I expected to be told that windings had burned through and that electricity no longer flowed and that the stator was therefore failed. I have never heard that. Maybe I just missed it. I have read that:

1. If you see an engine light, the stator is failing.
2. If you have a battery light, the stator is failing
3. If you see an engine light and a battery light, the stator is failing

I know that lots of folks have had numerous failed stators. I have also been told that numerous of the failed stators returned to the factory are really not failed. The last stator I saw that had failed was on a Harley. You could smell it all over the shop, and see burned windings, which is presumably why it failed. If that has been posted with any of these, I apologize because I missed it.

I don't doubt that stators are failing. I would like to know about the actual failures. I am concerned that folks have been talked into removing the harness as a solution for stator failure, and are contributing to their own stator's failure. Like I said in an earlier post, removing the system that lowers the heat on the stator, which is what causes it to fail.......well it looks to me like turning up the furnace to cool your house off.

Anyway, I would appreciate anybody who can tell me how their stators failed. It has become way too hard for me to separate the facts from the fiction. It is just that if I go by what I have read on the BadWeb, my stator has been failed for 4000 miles and counting.

If stator fails.. Battery light comes on thru out the rpm range... If relay fails, battery light comes on at idle only.... If regulator fail, system voltage error shows up on dash and lights stop working..

There are quite a few problems that have led to the whole thing. First off was the initial H-D release that they were issuing a fix to a stator problem that a few 09 replacement motors had. Then you had H-D putting in the fix and some stators failed soon after the fix was installed whether damage was done already or the fix was improperly put in who knows?. Then you had H-D dealers misdiagnosing problems like stators being replaced when they didn't need to be and the same problem surfacing again within a few miles. Then the harness fix started failing and bringing more confusion into the mix. Then there are the owners who tinker with there machines which cause problems I don't want to make it sound like it's all Harley's fault. There are also dealers who will find a voltage reg bad and just replace it and there are dealers who will find a reg bad and bang the mothership for a stator and reg and tell the customer that as well let's face it times were tough the past couple of years.
Look I understand H-D's stance the bike is discontinued we will honor the warranty but that's it there will be no R&D on a new stator.I don't like that they are gouging the prices of 08 set ups but what are ya gonna do. I went to Rotax with the question of specs if canam or aprillia parts are able to be used and they just gave me spin so what can you do?
I am lucky I a mechanic and have mechanically savy friends. As I have said I have a solution I kinda feel bad for the guys that don't.

My bike had the harness from day one. I ride 99.9% highway speeds, 3500 rpm up and and when my stator failed I was coming off of a day long 4 tank high rpm run. My stator had 5 dark brown poles all on the top with the center one burnt black and dead shorted. It smelled so burnt I kept it outside untill I sent it off for rebuilding. I have 3 dealers within a 2 hour ride and as near as I can tell they sold a total of 40 1125s all years. I have been told by them that they have changed about 14 stators. Not good numbers. I have looked at 4 other stators burnt like mine. On my bike the harness did not save my stator and I do not run it on my Rm Stator with 9000km now. In Canada Harley wants over $2000 parts only for a 08 stator and rotor and I have paid from $350 to $600 for used ones and $1500 for a salvage 08 bike. Im very happy with my reduced output rebuild but then I have a 08 to fall back on. Sorry I have no spare parts for sale.

PS, I have sent on my extra stators to fellow Badwebers at cost and as I come across them I will continue to do so. I should add that the only proven long term fix is a 08 stator and rotor even if my RM Stator is working great.
