I just had my 08 instrument cluster replaced with an 09 cluster and on my way home from the dealer the fuel light and check engine light came on (I also noticed later there was a "comm error"). I then brought it back to the dealer and they couldn't figure out what was wrong. They then told me to ride it for a while and see if it fixes itself.
I did a badweb search and found similar problems except the 08 cluster still works fine in my bike. The 08 cluster was replaced last year by an 09 cluster which reacted the same way this one is reacting, so they put the 08 one back in (which wasn't broken at this point) and it worked fine.
I'm guessing I'm gonna need to bring it back to the dealer but didn't know if there were any fixes that anyone knew about.

Essentially, if you're getting CEL/LFL while riding, it is the thermistor on the fuel pump.
If you get the CEL/LFL on start-up and they go out at or near reaching OpTemp, that's due to firmware and requires a newer IC.
Not sure if there's a year model difference here..

I have an 08 with a "bad" rev firmware but I have had a thermistor go bad and had the fuel pump replaced.

Thanks for the quick response. The CEL/LFL comes on while riding (and after it has been ridden will come on at startup if shut off and started again). If it is the thermistor, why would my old 08 IC not have the problem and the new 09 IC have it? How might my dealer diagnose this since they haven't had a clue twice now on how to approach this problem (they are the only "certified Buell dealer withing 80 miles)?
Thanks!

Me too (i think).

I've been getting the CEL/LFL for 30sec-min infrequently. Usually when i'm at OP temp.

happened this morning after getting gas - both turn off after 30sec-1min riding, but wondering if something is failing? Is there something logged i can check in diagnostic mode?

thanks!!

If it's the thermistor, I believe a parallel resistance, jumpered in thru the plug under the seat, should clear the DTC.
If it's firmware(I'll find the e-mails and get the firmware Revs when my desktop computer finishes rebuilding...) you need a new IC.

Same problem here. Brought it to a dealer. They scanned the codes and found the historic code. They claim HD will not help them diagnose from a stored code, they claim the code must be active. They put 73 miles on my bike, burning my fuel, and gave me the bike back...still broken...with "cannot replicate" as the resolution.

I've had my LFL/CEL come on at start up after it's been ran for about 5-6 miles. Bike is at op temp and goes out after about 30 sec. But I've never had it come on (both) while riding.
