Maybe you're low on oil or need to change it.

Add or change oil.

You can try to change the angle of the shift lever and adjust the toe piece placement in order to get better leverage on the shifter.

And check the oil as another poster suggested.

Make sure your clutch is in sound working order too. If your low on fluid or have the weep, then possible that it's not fully disengaging due to air in the line.

even if clutch is blown when floating it should still be smooth as mentioned add or change and most likely change the oil.

people here will call me out for this but my 1125r chewed up and spit out the amsoil 20w-50 likes the mobil1 4t but realizing the 20w-50 wasnt the best choice i will be retrying the amsoil brand but in a 10w-40 weigh.

these bikes really care about what lube oil you use.

I switched to 10w-40 myself here recently (Amsoil). The bike has a lot less mechanical noise and starts better; but the weather is cold, so the 20w-50 was not appropriate. It's been great so far; but I only have a few weeks on the new oil.

I recently fitted some adjusable foot pegs, didn't think to adjust the shift lever, out on my first ride and could hardly get it in gear, a bit of fine tuning with the toe peg and on the splines and all is silky smooth(for the Buell)again.
