update:

round 2 for me with this R/R and the new one seems to be working well after 20miles so far. (search for compufire and you can read all about the first attempt) I did connect (+) and (-) directly to the battery instead of using the OEM connections this time around.

I wonder why the voltage output appears so much better with this R/R compared to the OEM? If the OEM is pumping out as many electrons as possible and simply shunting what is not needed to ground (generating a lot of heat) This makes me think that a shunt style would run at a higher voltage all the time. I am just curious

Seems warm but not searing hot like the OEM.

I hope it can save/help my working but dark brown custom rewind stator that has 4000miles on it. We'll see. The bike only gets down time when Im riding the sumo or truckin the family about so ill log some miles in the next few months..

The CF runs at a higher output voltage because it is not dropping as much voltage in the rectification electronics.

The stock R/R probably have a full wave diode bridge that drops about 1.3 volts per leg which is about 2.6V total

The MOSFET does synchronous rectification so it drops just over 1/2 of that because it uses diodes in the upper legs of the Full wave rectified (only doing sync rec in the lower legs), and the CF SERIES do the sync rec on both the upper and lower legs.

It was probably a cost decision to only do the lower legs on the MOSTFET R/R FHA0012

Thanks for the response!

Compufire R/R is working well so far.... it has been really hot in SoCal the past few days and despite a pretty warm to the touch R/R the output voltage according to my IC are never below 13.0 and usually 14.2 when underway.

500miles and counting.

Yesterday was hot but the day before we were in the low 90's in Santa Barbara .

Your first R/R was an aberration; The fact that CF warrantied your R/R when installed on a different bike should tell you that the CF is a slam dunk.
