well it's that time of year. my winter gear is tired and i am looking to replace/upgrade at least my jacket perhaps a 1 piece winter/water proof suit.

currently have a pair of first gear over pants and an old frank thomas jacket the jecket is literally in tatters the pants have been through the ringer via a bmw 5 series some years back.

i'm 6-1 250(and dropping). i am liking the joe rocket survivor suit on paper but am looking for hopefully actual experience int eh sub $500 range for suit or for jacket and pants together.

Cortech or Tourmaster. Depends on what style you like.

I've got the Cortech GX-2 Air jacket. It's mesh and it has rain and warm liner. Excellent. I've got the Tourmaster Venture pants, a little looser than the Cortech line. Same rain and warm liner.

I ride till about Thanksgiving, or 35 degrees, whichever comes first. If you intend to ride longer, invest in heated gloves. I'd go the battery ones myself, but it's up to you.

I'm 6'1" and 210.

Joe rocket is kinda "new" to the "touring" biz...the young ones out here like their gear as it is styled toward their tastes...
a) Aerostitch is #1 (but very $$$)(compare your choices to one of their suits)
http://www.aerostich.com/
b) Always had good performance from the Cortech/Tourmaster family
c) First Gear offers good value-but I don't know how long they hold up...
good luck (still paying for weddings...last one was in June of this year!)

im actually very happy with the first pants i have. there is a hole in the right outter calf area where they saved my bacon nearly 5yrs ago.

areostitch is bad to the bone no doubt and i do realize that the cost per year on something of that caliber is next to nothing but i still can't afford the initial investment.

on joe they are new to touring which is why i am hesitant but that price is very attractive.

I bought my cold weather stuff from a snowmobile outfitter.Insulated leather bibs and coat leave only the hands to worry about.I am good to around 25 degrees or so but for some reason I just can't stay warm below that.

Your cooling off and mine are two different definitions. I picked up one of these about 2 years ago. Able to do a Sunday morning ride down to when the water gets hard with an electric vest and grips. Shorter distances or slightly warmer temps and it's fine alone. Kills about 1/4 acre of velcro shrubs to make each suit though...
