always wanted a Vincent... saw some when I was a kid - wonder if Eric (...with a "K") is a fan - not a bad read:

Rode a Black Shadow when I was 18. One of the mechanics in the shop had it. Took me 38 years to finally buy a bike. Now I get the same rush on my 1125r

That was a neat read, and Rodrob, I'm envious.

I have never had the chance to ride a Vincent although the Black Shadow is one of my all time favorites.

First saw two in National City, Ca. at Sonny Angel's shop.
He had 2 Shadows, one in Rapide Red that he took to Bonneville and a factory fresh Black.

I was coming back from lunch a couple of years ago at the Harley shop and pulled in behind and elderly British man riding an "old Brit bike".
When I got off Loretta to look it was a Black Shadow!

At least I got to hear it run.
I've since run into him a couple more times - it is an Engineer's bike.

This guy has one on display and a few more Vincent's. Very cool place.

If you ever make it to the "Left Coast" try and find time to go here ( central coast area...not far from Vandenberg AFB)

http://www.motosolvang.com/motorcycle.html

he has a a Brough, a Britten and a couple of Vincents...and a few HD race bikes as well

a great overnite trip from my home in MC paradise.

The BBB (Broward British Bikers) would have a Wes Scott Shop Ride at least once a year and I had the pleasure of riding directly behind a Vincent down A1A. What a fantastic machine. So advanced for it's time. My Triumph seemed like a clattering piece of junk in comparison.

Love the Vincent Black Shadows. Agree on the design. It was one of the first few to use the engine was a stressed member to save overall weight and add rigidity. Love the way they look too.

Not sure if I want to ride one often though. Too much maintenance!

I had this for quite a few years. Wideline Featherbed frame, Tickle tls brake, Shadow cams + pistons and later updated to two front heads. After this, the gearbox was sawn off and a Norton box fitted. An alternator rotor was then fitted to the end of the crank to match the stator in the Norton Primary case. Commando clutch was the last mod made to it.

I actually saw a Vincent at Dave's Mobil, Silvernail & Grandview, in Waukesha at approx. 12:25pm.

Did not know what I was looking at, the guy needed a push to start it (some guy helped him) and as he went past me on the other side of the pumps I read Vincent on the tank.

This is the very first time I've ever seen one. Wish I could have looked it over. Wasn't that quiet once he got it started, however.

I just want to add -

My comment above about the Vincent being an Engineer's bike was not my own idea.
I read it once in an article that made a big deal of all the adjustable points on the machine so you could make it behave well for YOU, not somebody else.

Very much like my 1125R or even more so, an 1190RS.

Good call Nuts4mc, you sir are a gearhead I hope to share a beer or two with someday.
See you at a Homecoming in the future...
