In the Sep issue of Cycle World, Kevin Cameron states, "But after AMA decided a 1340cc Buell belonged in the 600 class, a mere 848 looked pretty tame at two-thirds of the Buell's displacement." I have always enjoyed Cameron's articles--but is that statement true?

This must be referring back to putting the XBRR in the old Formula Extreme class - has not the more recent 1125R in the Daytona sportbike class.

Displacement alone doesn't tell the story.

Kevin is either incredibly ignorant, or intentionally dishonest.

Yes, I am quite sure they are talking about the XBRR

Rider was McWilliams?

Must of been the XBRR, as that was a 1340cc.

I emailed him last week about that when I read the article and never received a response.

Well if that's the case, it's not much of a comparison: Sportster to Ducati 848 (1950 to 2000 tech). I felt it was a reference to the 1125--after all the controversy.

Even if he was referring to the 1125 and got the displacement wrong, he's still wrong. It wasn't a 600 class. There were 600 inline 4s in the class, as were other displacements and engine configurations.

He couldn't do simple math in the previous rant he had about the 1125 either. He was extrapolating power based on displacement of a twin versus an inline four, and made a idiotic math error that of course made it look like the inline four didn't have much of an advantage.

The rant was many pages, and the retraction a month later was a mealy mouthed half apology.

I lost all respect for him. He grew up eating and drinking the inline four scene, and it clouds everything else he does badly. Amazing that it destroys his ability to do math...

speaking of mags and such:
anyone notice the letter in the new Sport Rider where the guy was talking about the Duc and spoke of how ugly the Buell was (assuming he meant 1190 as its new and being spoken about a lot).
At least people are keeping an eye on the company I guess
