Hi everyone,

I'm about to return to the states in a couple of weeks, I've been following different stator post as much as I can to figure out how to permanently fix the stator issue. I just wanted to get some clarity before I decide to buy something concerning the V/R or stator parts.

1. So far the 08 Setup is the best correct? (aside from the high cost of the rotor and installation, more than likely my dealer will not allow such a swap)

2. The compufire voltage regulator is better than shunt type regulator correct?

3. And custom rewind is a good way to go correct? (aside from the couple of known failures)

4. Does the harness do more harm than good? Is it better just to not use it all together?

I have a 2009 1125CR and from what i know I haven't had a stator issue yet (still awaiting dealer info). My bike is currently at the dealer getting the charcoal canister and making sure that it runs. Like I said before I'm not in the states so all i know is what my wife tells me, and I know that the bike doesn't run at all and I have seen the battery light and CEL light come on a couple of times during some highway riding.

Any clarification on this could be very helpful, and thanks in advance for your responses.

yeah you're pretty much spot on with your assessments. Although as you've seen, even those points will be debated, but yeah, I think if you cant get an 08, then custom rewind and no harness is the way to go. I think the VR swaps have been hit or miss for the guys that have tried them.

You deployed?

Budgolf,

Yeah I'm deployed, my team and I are in the last part of RIP(relief in place) and we are very excited to get back home. Concerning your post I was thinking maybe try the custom rewind thing and the compufire VR because the 08 set up is good but way out of my budget right now. But time will tell as more people post about their experiences with each of the options available.

Guambra2001 - Thank You for your service.

1. So far the 08 Setup is the best correct? (aside from the high cost of the rotor and installation, more than likely my dealer will not allow such a swap)
>>YES

2. The compufire voltage regulator is better than shunt type regulator correct?
>>YES search for posplayr. he is an EE and done some remarkable research to support the series regulator argument.

3. And custom rewind is a good way to go correct? (aside from the couple of known failures)
>>YES I think I just read that CR is halting production until he comes up with a working version. Search Kinder has a rewinder who is dry winding, not using epoxy as he thinks this traps heat in.

4. Does the harness do more harm than good? Is it better just to not use it all together?
>>MAYBE the jury is still out. I had the harness from new at it failed at 2200 miles. I have 12,000 miles now and just recently disabled it. My stator may have a shorter life but the motor runs way better/more torque from idle on up with the system getting the correct voltage.

If you can't get the 08 setup then my recommendation would be a rewind and a series VR.

I don't believe the VR swaps have been "hit and miss" as such, but just changing the VR alone is unlikely to be the cure unless the stator has also been changed/rewound at the same time...but that's just my opinion.

I've just put my rewound stator in, and unplugged the harness, I currently have the OEM VR installed but can't afford to replace the VR with the Compufire one as yet as I managed to score a 08 Stator & Rotor from eBay and blew the VR money on that.

In principal a series VR should give the stator an easier time, that in itself might be enough (assuming the stator wasn't already "damaged").

Safest option: 08 Stator & Rotor
Second safest: Rewind, Series VR & harness
Third safest: Rewind, Series VR, no harness
Fourth: Rewind, OEM VR, Harness
Fifth: Rewind, OEM VR, no harness
asking for trouble: OEM everything

Just my opinion of course...

Be safe dude, I'm sitting in Baghdad myself right now. As you can see, a lot of guys here have experience with the problem. I think I'd try to find out what worked for the most people, and go from there.

I'll bet it's changed since I was there last!

I have Brothers out in Afghan at the moment, they're really looking forward to getting home too.

Be safe both of you.

Budgolf,

Thanks I will, you be safe too and keep your head down. I think the CR and the compufire is the best way to go, and I don't know about the harness yet maybe just leave it in.

David -

I must apologize, but I am no longer at High Country, it was time for me to move on.

Last I saw your bike it had a WOP tag on it - Waiting On Parts.
I know that several parts you asked for had been ordered, it looked like all was going well.
Mikey and Steve were doing a great job of securing all the stuff you asked for.

I'm confident you will be very happy when you get home.

Thank you for your service, get home safe.

Zack

Thanks Zac,

Sorry to hear that your not at High Country, they seemed pretty helpful. Last time I talked to the service guy (can't remember his name) I just asked him to get the Canister and fix the bike. All the other stuff was something unnecessary, and I can "probably" do it myself. thanks for all your help.
