I made the mistake today of using my rear brake while sitting at a stoplight...it promptly locked up 5 miles later and i had to pry it apart. Rear brake #2 down.

I use my rear brake on a regular basis, and at stoplights. It's never locked up on me before. 2009 1125CR.

thats what i was thinking, i use mine all the time in conjunction with the front, and if im sitting at a stoplight i usually use the rears to hold it in place. never had a problem. id think some other thing is to blame in your case...

I use my rear brake all the time as well, no lock up unless I choose to lock up the rear, but it always releases.
Obviously your rear brake system has a problem of some sort.

have you checked your line/res/pads/ adjustment, as above never had a problem with mine even when trailing into a bend

There really should be a "E-Brake" warning light so when you leave the parking brake on and start riding it will light up.

I have to use the rear brake all the time here in Missouri. When parked at a light on a slope it just makes it easier. Never experienced this issue and I've owned my 1125r for over 3 years now.

I would start looking for other issues, as suggested above.

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/634669.html The master cylinder sticks on these bikes. I changed mine over to all Brembo, but if I had it to do over I'd have just swapped the master cylinder.

Twice my rear brake has started dragging. I had to stop and bleed some of the HOT fluid out and push the pads back into the caliper. I took it in for service and HD replaced the rear master cylinder under warranty.

Im with some others - I use my rear brake on every ride I take, whether its to the local grocery store or post office or a couple hour trip to the mountains. No issues.
I think its like many things - you make tons of a certain part, a few of them will have flaws
