Ok, got a Handy lift in the garage, but the S3 is still on it and minus motor, so its not available. Needing to get a new rear tire, curious if there is a way to get the rear up just enough to get the wheel off without needing rear stands or being on a lift. I am thinking about going to the WV Buell rally, and its going to be almost 800 miles round trip before any riding while Im there. Only about 2mm of treat left in center of tire now, worry it wouldnt last the trip safely. That is why I am in such a rush to get this done without the lift. Thanks. | ||

You can use a scissor jack to lift up the rear of the muffler while the bike is on its side stand. Just make sure the front tire is chocked good so the bike will not roll. This method is not the best but it will work in a desperate situation. | ||

eye bolts in the rafters if they aren't exposed then ratchet straps. if they are exposed the loop around and lift her on up. | ||

Boogi +1.. just hook up to the subframe. Rear lift is the way to go if you can get your hands on one but field expedient methods work in a pinch. | ||

No rafters in the garage.... Maybe the jack idea will work. Can push the front wheel up to the wall and then jack the rear up just enough to get the rear off. Thanks Rogue! (and others, though your ideas cant currently be used at my house) Any other ideas? | ||

If you have a step ladder tall enough, or a swing-set handy - any A-frame, and a come-along. Pull the seat and lift from the sub-frame. I have used a rear stand, rafters and a floor-jack. Rear-stand is preferred tho. Zack | ||

I'm in the same boat. My rear stand is being occupied by my father-in-laws bike, I'm rebuilding the engine. The ceiling in my garage is finished or sheetrocked but I do have an engine life so I'm gonna use that cuz I need a new rear too | ||

how ever you do it, don't take off the caliper, instead remove the mud guard and lift the wheel up and then out. trick i read on here ... it's WAAAAY easier, and your less likey to scratch yer rim | ||

I use a frame for a swinging bench and a couple of ratchet straps. But any simply frame out of 2x4s would work. Even a 2x4 clamped to a pair of ladders would work. | ||

Mmmm.... Yuengling! I've used floor jacks on all of my Buells, no chocks, and haven't had any issues. One of these days I'll get a set of stands, but for now, what I have works. | ||

I cheat big time. I use ratchet straps and the shop forklift  . | ||

Tried straps, but found them very unstable. Tried the jack and side stand, didn't like that either. So, jacked the muffler and used my patented paint can stands - very stable, but I have bought a set of Pitbulls since  (Message edited by sprintst on August 10, 2011) | ||

Yikes! That looks sketchy to me. I imagine full they might be OK, but empty I wouldn't feel comfortable being out of arms reach for long. I got a pitbull FR/RR and love them. I would look at the t-rex stands if budget is tight - at least the rear stand. | ||

Buy a second set of stands. They aren't terribly expensive, and if you have more than one bike, there's always a possibility that both bikes will need to be on stands at the same time. | ||

Pull/lean it up on the kickstand-have a helper slide a jackstand under the right footpeg. I even changed a swingarm using this method... |
