Gang, I just spent the past 20 minutes reading search results, so please don't flame me... but my wife just complained of a strong gasoline smell on my clothes after I had just left the garage. I had ridden for about 45 minutes from work to home and put it right in the small 1 car garage. I then ate dinner for about an hour before going to get an item from the garage, when my wife noticed the smell on my clothes. Went back out, the exhaust was cold, the rotor was cold, opened the gas cap tank and it didn't seem pressurized... but the fuel tank was burning hot. Too hot to keep my hand on for more than about 2 seconds. Does this mean my fuel is boiling? It's weird, I've ridden the same distance on hotter days and seen my coolant/air temps get scary high on other days... but not today. Today was a nice ride after some cooling rain. | ||

The boiling point of gasoline can be as low as 80°F, depending on the blend. Being that the motor is in the middle of the frame, all the heat will slowly radiate and keep the fuel and frame warm for a while, but it is nothing to get alarmed about. | ||

My dealer installed heat shielding on the inside of the frame... seems to have helped! | ||

If for some reason the vent tube were to get blocked (turns out it did)..... I had routed the vent tube straight down past the header along the radiator vent tube. When I first checked it, I could blow air through. Later, I figured out that the end piece (the plastic tubing that originally vented out at the passenger peg mount) had melted onto the header. When the header was hot, tube vented... when cool, vent tube sealed shut... Gas hot, vent tube sealed shut, gas stays liquid while under pressure. Release pressure suddenly and instant vapor phase.. wicked science.
