I've been out for a fair few rides on the bike now and it's been an interesting experience. I can't say that my riding is as smooth or quick as it usually is. I've set the suspension to the settings in the handbook and it seems to highlight just how bad the roads around here are. Will softening it off a bit on pre-load and compression damping help? I'm about 11 1/2 stone so a bit of a lightweight.

Oh the throttle is a bit, errrr, heavy isn't it? I think I'm getting RSI

The fuelling is great when the throttle is open but it falters a bit on a steady throttle especially at slower speeds. I've a Free Spirits/Dobeck Gen 3 card incoming and I hope it will help here. Other than that I suspect I'm just getting used to it. Maybe I'll look at resetting the TPS. The suspension jolting is sometimes detracting from the cornering fun too.

Don't get me wrong, I love the bike and love a challenge (I've been riding 41 years in a couple of weeks and I'm always looking for something to invigorate my motorcycling).

I'm not sure how much the slight lack of riding satisfaction is me and how much the bike but I'll work on the me bit first.

I rode the first time with my APH can on yesterday although I left the baffle in until I have the fuelling adapted. What an awesome choice ! It does look so much better than stock and so well made too, fitted like it was made by a professional (which indeed it was). It also sounds very, very tasty. The bike goes like stink, very exciting stuff.

The front brake also takes getting used to. Not for the inexperienced or those who recently ride a HD Fat Boy : ) A Tesco delivery van came around a tight and narrow bend as I approached and I grabbed a little too much front (the back is a bit weak which is okay) and it wasn't pretty

It's beautiful! Every biker and layman who's opinion I value loves it.

I'm awaiting a K&N with the Free Spirit card and I'll set to de-noiding the beast too. I've got an ex R1 Mosfet VR to fit some time too and I need to think about the mounting arrangements.

I'll take a photo of the bike with the new can when the sun comes out but at the moment the Lake District is gathering new lakes.

Hi Peter, welcome to Badweb. The suspension settings as per the book are a bit on the firm side (IMHO), and actually the suspesion can be a bit firm if you are light...they work fine for me but I'm a bit of a bloater LOL

Do you have the high bar kit fitted? The throttle cable routing is a very sensitive area, especially witht he high bar kit, if not routed 100% correctly there is a fair amount of resistance introduced which will make the throttle feel heavy.

Even if you don't have the high bars fitted I'd checl the throttle routing if the throttle does feel excessively heavy.

Do you know what ECM flash the bike is running? Mine had some "hesitation" at lower revs with the older flash (back in 09) but significantly improved with the last version.

An Erik Buell Racing ECM is the say to go for better fuelling and/or performance (again just an opinion).

Good shout on the bars Jules, I'll look into that, yes it has the high bars.

The thing I like about the Dobeck is that is is multi adjustable. I've had good experience with one on another bike previously.

I'll check out the routing when I do the other mods, the RSI comment wasn't entirely in jest.

I'll try easing the compression damping on the rear 1st, then preload. One bit at a time.

It's worth a quick read of the first post in
this thread

There are a few posts on here w.r.t. careful throttle cable routing and the additional friction resulting from the high bar install, the first turn out of the throttle housing is quite sharp which seems to cause issues.

I've just been reading up on that Gen3, interesting stuff.. You won't find that many fans of piggyback modules on here but I'll be interested to know how you get on with it.

I don't suppose you're planning on going to the Bulldog Bash next weekend are you?
