+1, but no matter how much I say it, nobody wants to listen, they would rather waste their time and whine on here all day. Whatever, I ride mine as much as I can and don't worry about a damn thing. I recommend everyone else does the same, or do everyone a favor and jump off a bridge.

Who is whining?

Uh..stimbrell. and the guy that started this, what must be the 20th "Erik Buell Racing is responsible for my problems" thread, and you.

But yeah, why care about my opinion? It only offers you a solution.

Do you always respond to people who clearly are people with opinions you care nothing about?

Sorry I interrupted the whining.

The only concern with rewinding is that there has not been a solution developed and PROVEN to be better than what the factory has to offer.

Bits and pieces of solutions have leaked. A solution WILL happen, it is just going to take a bit and most likely NOT come from HD.

Is that a moderator suggesting people jump off a bridge? DANG! You know, you don't have to read it if you don't want to...

Moderators get paid?

Your duty is to read it...make sure it complies with forum rules...not to suggest people jump off bridges.

I dont expect Erik Buell Racing to do anything. He isnt part of the company that made these bikes.

I do expect HDMC to do something as they own the warranty.

I will not pay for a warranty twice (once in the purchase price and once to replace the parts while under warranty).

I do not own several bikes like some people. This is my primary mode of transport during the summer.

I bought it fully expecting a HD supported bike. I paid non fire sale for this bike.

Had i known the 2009 bike had so many issues I would not have even looked at it,

I love this bike when it runs "on back roads" but its at the point i cant trust it. Places i ride have no cell coverage and i dont feel like sleeping at the side of a rural road for a day awaiting a car to come by and save my ass.

As for riding in town its a total POS. Its too hot, throws codes non stop, geared too high ect ect.

That being said i could live with the in town issues if my back road issues were fixed once and for all. Shame that doesnt seem like it will happen and i will likely flog it for another bike.

Unfortunately I think the bean counters will win out.

Fact of the matter is that the lion share of 1125s were sold off by November of 2009 or so. That means that the lion share will be out of warranty in ~3 months.

Knowing what an engineering effort costs for things similar in complexity/testing required to a stator...I seriously doubt if HD could save money by "fixing" the stator.

Figure they already spent a bunch of money developing the "harness". I am sure that was to prolong the high percentage past warranty.

If you aren't ready to fix it yourself, check out your state's lemon laws or sell. You will NEVER be happy with your 1125.

Just be realistic with yourself.

AC

Im in that process atm. Just have to decide if i buy extended or sell it and get something else.

I have a month to decide however HD Canada has said if the stator fails they will cover it within reason extended warranty or not.

HD Canada have always been very fair with me

I don't see how paying MORE money for an extended warranty is a wise plan. Take the cash, shove it in the bike fund. For all you know you will decide to sell next summer and that money will still be sitting in your account ready for the next bike. If your stator fails...there are some cheaper options developing with rewinds and stuff.

We WILL get there eventually.

> "if you rode the bike differently you wouldn't have the issue"

Jules, man, I hear you buddy. And, that's not really what I'm saying.

It's not about using the most of the bike's potential, it's about keeping the revs up.

Basically, it's using a lower gear at all times.

I know it's not a sure fix. But, we know that increased oil flow and the higher revs do keep the stator cooler.

It's about surviving with a bike the maker won't honor the warranty on.

There are things you can do to help the bike help you. It's not perfect, but odds are it's better. And, it doesn't even require you to ride it like you stole it or even break the law.

You just gotta downshift ; )

"It's about surviving with a bike the maker won't honor the warranty on."

Honestly, I HATE HD...but I don't think that statement is factual in ANY light.

We have NEVER heard of a stator warranty claim being denied.

I started riding around at 5k+ rpm to "protect" the stator. Now I do it because it is just plan FUN! Being right on the verge of the meat of the power is exhilarating. I LOVE it. Good for the stator? Maybe. Good for the soul? DEFINITELY!

Well i rode mine at 6k and up 99% of the time.

Bike hates being ridden below 4k so i run on freeways ect in 3rd.. bike has rarely seen 4th let alone 5th or 6th,

I work afternoon shifts for last 3 years so im never in traffic.

Stator and VR failed at 2k miles so that "fix" is total bs.

Its faulty period. If and when it decides to fail it will and theres nothing you can do to prevent it other then maybe sacrificing a goat?

I'm going to pull the cover on my 09 with 7k on it in a couple of weeks for regular service and take a look.

I'm VERY curious what that stator is going to look like...

Yea, after my busted ass, motor and broken collar bone, I check and re-torque that stator nut (and clutch nut, too) every oil change.

I need to do valves on that bike, too, so might as well get it all done at once.

My point was "yea, but did they fix your bike?"

HD is just kicking the can down the road until the warranty expires.

> Its faulty period.

I agree. But, there's something to these bikes about keeping the jugs spinning vigorously.

Race bikes don't seem to have the problem. I'm certainly way past the median and long overdue for mine to fail.

Maybe it will here in a bit and I can post up a recipe for a tasty dish of crow?

That's one of the reasons I'm so curious to pull the stator cover on the stocker. The one on the race bike was so clean and shiny... but it's a relatively new motor.

So here is my summary, this is a Buell forum, Buell was shut down By HD and is therefore not well liked by the majority of Buell fans, But here we are with a problem that HD should be addressing but are instead just replacing bad parts with more of the same bad parts till the warranty expires and people suffering this are told to stop whining and to jump off a bridge, how bizarre, on a Buell site by a moderator no less.
Of course then you remember that this self same person posted some time ago that HD had retrofitted the 08 parts to their bike, at great expense to HD, so they are among a very select few in the world who have been treated right by HD in this matter.
I'll leave others to draw their own conclusions.

Damn, that's nasty! Glad you're OK though...and it does explain you're desire to keep checking the rotor nut LOL.

I'd be interested to see another pic of your stator, how many more miles have you done since you posted the last one?

Couple hundred? My cluster went poof so I've been riding without one and have no idea ; )

I think the real story is going to be the B bike. It's got 7000 miles on it now, it's a bone stock 09, and about 2000 of those or so are street miles, so it's seen at least some time away from WFO.

I've got races all this month and a pleasure trip for a weekend at Barber, so next month I'll drop the cover and take a peek, and post up a pic.

I'm pretty willing to eat some crow if when I do that it looks like that thing is due to go poof any second, because I KNOW it's been ridden consistently above 6k.

My take is the "jump off a bridge" comment was in response to the endless indignation and whining. If you imagine that doing so on this forum will net you any positive results, you are horribly mistaken. The place to take action is with your dealership or the warranting corporation, namely Harley-Davidson.

Endlessly carping about the issue here is worthless mindless complaining which is an irritation for the those of us who prefer to actually get stuff done rather than complain endlessly. Thus the "or you could jump off a bridge" comment was in my view, perfectly appropriate. You can continue whining on your way down. Hope the water is deep and you land safely.

I too am a forum custodian. I'd not be surprised if the view I've stated is unanimously supported by all BadWeB custodians. Pretty sure the majority of folks here don't care to hear any more indignant whining about the stator failure situation.

If it were me, I'd either fix the problem myself, or look into a class action lawsuit to force H-D to resolve the problem.

Blake, Please inform us all, how are you going to fix the problem yourself ? I am sure there are a few owners of Buell 1125's who would really appreciate your knowledge and ability to fix this problem that HD and Buell can not fix, but you claim you can, truely you are a God.

I suspect if Blake actually owned a 1125R and experienced the stator failure(s) his tune would change.

Let's not forget, the stator remains the only real issue with what is a completely awesome bike otherwise. It's no surprise the stator is a common thread around here.

I did find an interesting item on an Aprillia forum from someone who had fitted a Compufire 55402 (Series VR) and used a thermal camera to measure the temp of both the VR and the stator housing pre and post install...

Interesting Thermal images

I'm not sure if I've seen the actual thermal images online before it does indicate a pretty impressive difference, i know many of us were convinced already but maybe this is a bit more factual evidence for those "on the fence"

Wait you mean to tell me that the 1125R and CR have stator issues?!? I find it funny that on most forums I visit most threads are related to something negative regarding the type of forum be-it motorcycle, type of car...etc. Which is part of what makes these forums so helpful. What is bothersome about this forum layout is that it is hard to see all the complaints about one topic so a lot of separate threads are created causing a very cluttered and ultimately negative look towards this issue. Yes there is an issue, Yes this is the place to discuss it, No Erik Buell Racing does not have to fix it, Yes H-D should. It's as simple as that and like mentioned whining on here and blaming Erik Buell Racing for the issue is pointless.
