As I mentioned elsewhere mine has no epoxy coatings as the guy i used suspected it may contribute to the heat issue. BUT I am unsure how many windings he did. he said it was a lower guage wire and 3 less turns.

As it stands at idle warm or cold the bike's volts drop to 12. Sometimes below. 14.5-6 at speed though.

I have an '08 setup soon to be on the way so next year this hopefully will be a non issue! : D

I kind of agree with the no epoxy thing.

What actually fails when I stator goes bad?? Does it just burn through the copper wire?

Great info Kinder.

Interestingly, 12V at idle is the one place where a true switching voltage regulator could make a significant improvement.

It could add more mechanical force (which the engine would add a little more fuel to overcome) but generate higher voltages at the same RPM. A transformer could do the same thing, just more crudely.
