Hello everyone, yesterday I went about getting an oil change on my fz1 when in the corner of my eye I see one of my dream bikes, an 09 1125r, with only 480 miles...480 total miles!!!

Test drove it and asked how much they would trade for my bike for a grand total of 2k difference. I'm really considering it seeing how much I miss my old xb, but im not sure if I should get it or not. I keep on seeing that the stators go back and voltage and heat are all problems, but is it worth it to trade and get all those problems fixed or should I just keep my current bike ( 06 fz1 w 14,700 miles)

Any help would be great full seeing that I was going to call them back either Monday or Tuesday.

Well... what type of riding are you going to do?

I've got an 08 1125R, and it's my daily driver (somehow, the Blast & the XB9 are *both* set up for my gf... strange how that works). I love it.

The 09s are a bit more annoying with the stator issue. I'm not sure how I'd feel about an 09 right now.

If you're willing to accept that at some point you'll need to replace the stator (either with an 08 stator/rotor or an aftermarket one), and are willing to either do that work or pay for that work, go for it.

My concern with the 09s would be taking long trips with them with the stock stator setup. I think nothing of saying "Damn, it's a nice day..." and doing 300-400 miles through the middle of nowhere. I'm not sure I'd want to do that with an 09, but that's up to the rider.

If you're mostly riding either with groups or in more populated areas, it's probably not a big deal. Solo rides through the middle of nowhere, I wouldn't set off with a "known flakey item" like the stator.

But that's me.

And other than that, they're stunning bikes... just make sure you get the race ECU. That totally transforms the bike.

Mostly is for fun and come and go to work when weather permits.....but I do go to Austin at least once a yr (I'm in Dallas)

I was able to do it w no problems with my xb1200 and my fz1 though.

Oh and I live in a condo, so I dont have a garage. So working on the bike is possible, but limited to weather.

If it was me I would buy it I love my r. Soon some will fix the stator problem for good. But it is your call. Depending on what you like.

save your money, wait for stator solution, let the market find the floor. When stator issues are resolved the market will likely start going up.

I've always loved the r, but I have to think of dependability...that's why I was thinking of switching from a15k bike to a technically new one.

TBH if someone offered me a FZ1 with that mileage and 2K I'd give them my R...

I'm not sure I could recommend the 1125 to someone as their only bike.

I really like mine, BUT it is a bike I think you have to accept as having some limitations. When it's going, it is almost perfect. I love the looks, I love the performance but the reliability is "questionable".

I know there are some owners who have had few/no problems but others have had lots and I've had my fair share.

Having said that, it's no worse than a number of other makes/models...and it is great to look at, and awesome to ride...

In good conscience I couldn't recommend it to a friend, but I'd let them take mine out and make their own minds up..

Buy it. Ride it like you stole it. When it breaks, fix it.

Then ride it some more.

From what I gather here the "only" problem that has come up consistently with the '09's are the stators, and maybe the rear wheel bearing failure.

I'm more in tune with '08 1125R's because that's what I have. So I may be wrong.

If I were in your shoes and you have Buell blue for blood, an '06 FZ1 is one boring ride (I know it isn't but just saying compared to an 1125R). So, I would go ahead and trade but immediately swap the 2008 Stator components in (I'm told it's $1,100 from Buell/HD). In addition, I would get 100% familiar with any other known issues on the '09's and rectify those immediately. It does add $$ to your overall purchase, but for me, it's a motorcycle and as such I accept that it is NOT an investment so I'm comfortable with that. The 1125R is probably a bike I will keep for a while since it fits my wants and needs perfectly. I commute on my '08 with no issues, although it has had all its recalls, and other known issues already rectified.

Should you do it? Only you can answer that.

Need to find out what the in service date is.
They came with a 2 year unlimited milage warranty.
If it cooks a stator there been some talk if you scream loud enough you can get 2008 parts put on.
Others have gotten a thicker wire rewind wich is still in the test stage.
I love my 1125r looks feel power.
But the stator cooked 700 miles from home and if I gotten a trade offer for a 675 daytona I would have taken it .
Eventually we will get all this sorted out it just painful I lost four days of riding

Ask them to put the 08 stator in it now, and then you'll trade. All they can say is no.

If it was an 08 i'd say def! But the 2009 stator issue is an issue. For those who have had them, some think its a fix, I have an 08 and i would never buy an 09 knowing what I know.

You test drove it... What did you think?

If you like the bike find a 2008

Thats my .02

Your loss. : )

While everyone is on here whining, I'm out riding mine, and not giving a rats ass. I've had more crashes than stator failures, yet I keep on riding.

The CR is an 2009/2010 model only. And according to the NADA price guide, your FZ-1 is worth somewhere around $5000, which is also the price range or so of the 1125's. Being that that's a low mileage one, it's market IMHO is somewhere around 6-6500. It would be a great complement to the FZ-1 though is you could do both. But I'd agree, as your only bike the FZ-1 makes more sense for sure.

Good idea, I think you should sell the Yami and not buy another motorcycle until you come across the 2008 CR of your dreams : )

Ozzie84,
I think Hybrid might have been poking at you a bit 09/10 CR, no 08's, even though they possibly are stamped as 08 builds, they are 09 models.
