I just got a 1" quiet core for my Barkers. It fits into the can near the tip. It is basically a flared 1" pipe with a washer and screen welded to it. Upon install I noticed that it didn't fit real well. There was some slop and it could rattle a bit. Sure enough, after about 150 miles it has completely self-destructed. The welds have broken and the screen has fallen apart. Anyone else have this experience? ac | ||

No, it does have some harmonic vibration at 5000 which is when I usually shift gears. | ||

Mine's been fine for several thousand miles. Contact Barker, I'm sure he'll send you a replacement. | ||

I used the next size up for several thousand miles without issue. I have the one you are using too, but still have not tried it out. | ||

I tried the 1.5" core...and really didn't find it to do much. The 1" definitely chopped out some HP, but the sound is perfect. The 1.5" was very raspy and VERY loud. I just need a 1" that doesn't self-destruct! | ||

Mine must be the 1.5" then, not the 1". I'm tempted to try the 1", but I'm not sure I would be willing to accept a noticeable decrease in horsepower. | ||

The 1.5" I had was just a flared pipe welded to a washer. The 1" was similar, but also had a spark arrestor screen on it. I emailed Barker on Saturday, but have not heard back yet. ac | ||

Mike, I appreciate. Along the same lines, I think there might be a design flaw that we could work on to improve. The welded flange would be better if it was of thicker material so it was sandwiched when installed. If it had a sliglty larger OD (~1/8") it would also fit more tightly in the pipe. This combination would greatly reduce the rattling/wobbling which is what I think caused the rapid failure. ac | ||

I just got off the phone with Tim, you will be receiving an Email from Mike and a replacemnet Quiet Core. A tip that Tim suggested, install the quiet core and put a couple dabs of silicone on the quiet core flange prior to installing the tip. This is something they do with the dirt bikes. I did bring up how the 1" cores fit a little looser than the 1 1/2" cores. | ||

Puzzled, I will definitely try the silicone. I think I have some copper RTV lying around. I will try that. A dab on each side will probably work nicely. The interesting part is my 1 5/8" "quiet" core won't go in the pipe AT ALL. It simply doesn't fit. It doesn't really matter to me since the 1 1/2" is a little louder than I can handle so I will never need the 1 5/8" anyways. Thanks for the great help! ac | ||

This thread got me wanting to hear that small quiet core. I've got one but I never used it. So I put it in and I can corroborate that the plate on the smallest QC (the one with the screen) is thinner than the larger QC plate. So I bedded it with RTV High Temp (the orange goo). Took a 300 mile spin and I like it. The power is different than with the open pipe. Plenty of torque in 6th to roll on at 4000 RPMs. I didn't go crazy tonight so no idea if it robbed the top much...but the middle is nice and fat. I like the sound of it too. And overall experience of riding feels smoother and less fatiguing. |
