Kevin - good to hear you have some info and detail on the crash you don't fully remember. It's great to clarify so you don't have that running around in your head "why did i...?"
Hopefully you are on the mend and first and foremost your taking care of yourself and healing up like your docs are asking you to. Trust them to know what they are talking about. Basically screw the bike right now - it'll be there when you are ready to tackle it. Compile your list of parts folks want and see if it's worth the effort to part it out. If not then don't stress or take the time to mess w/ it.
Your health and family are way more important than some forum guys bugging you for parts. I'm sure there's stuff we can use, but it should be on your timeline not ours. don't let it add stress during your recovery.

new photos uploaded. just had my wife help me pull the GPR. crossed the wires under the key switch, got the bike to crank over without hesitation, but it is out of gas, cracks in the frame near the fuel pump drained it completely.
that's the update for today. hope the album comes across. i uploaded it just now, so it may take a while to process on their servers. |

Kevin are you done riding, I ask because I have had a couple low sides on the track on the road race bike and a rear tire blow off the bead on a drag bike, always come out ok. But not too long ago, had to put a bike down on the street to avoid a rider that panicked in a turn and I had to make a choice. After all was healed and new helmet was bought, the first ride on my bike was nothing but smiles. I did struggle with am I done? Just wondered where you are on this.

Scott, that's a good question.
As of now, i'm considering myself done with riding. it will not be easy to stay away from riding once the shock of the wreck wears off, but for as much enjoyment as riding brings me, i'd rather not take the chance of putting myself, my wife, or my family through another ordeal like this one.
when things cool down and finances are back in line, i may head back to mustangs. i'll need to get my speed/racing fix somehow and i miss the sound of a nice cammed small block. |

I wish you the best on your decision, glad you’re on the mend. One interesting thing I heard and now know is after you have an accident on a cycle when close calls happen again your ability to process and avoid or deal with the situation is greatly enhanced , it’s like time slows down and everything goes in slow motion and you have time to make decisions . Other racers and riders have talked about it not a particular club you want to join. I wish you the best!!

The only stoppie I have ever done was on my s1 a few years back. At a downtown portland intersection they had just moved the traffic lights from hanging in the top center of the intersection to poles on the corners of the intersection. I was on a one way heading west and the car on my left going north. The car on my left did not see the traffic light on the corner and blew it, I was on an intercept with the passenger door. The passenger raised his arms to shield himself from impact. The rear tire came off the ground with about 24 inches before impact. When I realized that I was doing a stoppie, I released the brake a bit and got back on hard. The rear of the bike came down nicely. I had stopped less than a foot from the car!
Time stood still. |
