My check engine light came on.

2008 1125r with approx. 7,700 miles

Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) displayed are:
U0001---Comm Error
P0506---IAC System
P0503---V Speed System
P0693---LT Fan System

Battery is fully charged.

First code is the CAN bus that talks between the Instrument Cluster and the ECM so they can share data.

Second code is the Intake Air System that regulates the idle speed. Idle speed appears to be higher than before.

Third code is the Vehicle Speed Sensor. I sometimes get 0mph while riding. Appears to be somewhat heat related as cooler temps don't set it off as much.

Fourth code is the Left Fan. Fan is currently not coming on.

Have any of you ever experienced these codes together? Any idea what the problem might be?

I've got the Buell Electrical Diagnostic Manual and am sorting through it but wanted to ask the experts what you have experienced.

Thanks everybody.

not a HD expert - but have some experience with OBD equipped vehicles
a) if the ECM can't communicate with a sensor - it generally goes into a "safe" mode:
1) it may raise the idle
2) it may shut down items that cause current draw
so....fix the comm problem first
b) there is some history about the VSS going bad
1) do a search on this site and see if there is a simple fix (connector comes dis-connected, a wire rubs against something and shorts out)
see here:

2) OR -the VSS goes bad - needs to be replaced

those are the two areas (communications & VSS) I would concentrate on first.
hope this helped
good luck

Yeah, for right now, I can live with an intermittent VSS.

But the CAN is another story. Will dive in again tomorrow.
