Ride home from work on slab and went over a slight bump and heard a "clink" like two bottles hitting.

Now rear end feels soft. Put her on side stand and pushing on right rear peg with my arm and the rear shock travels about 6 inches easily.

Didnt feel like poking around tonight but ive a bad feeling about what im going to find in the morning

Sure hope it wasn't the rear shock breaking. But if was easy to push down on than most likely it was the preload spring. Or maybe it just came off it's seat. Hey wishful thinking since that would be the cheapest and easiest repair. Well good luck to ya

Just like the forks, if your rear shock hasn't been serviced in a while the oil turns into sludge. This increases internal pressures, you most likely blew a seal. My S1 had the recall shiny can shock, that POS blew seals regularly for several gpsuspension.com rebuilds until I got the Penske from them. I have been getting my bikes forks and shocks serviced at gpsuspension.com for years.

Danny,,

I have 3000 miles on the bike. Something let loose but wont know till i get it to the shop.

It sits a little lower and i can feel every surface imperfection. the shock still has some resistance and when i sit on it the rear squats about 2 inches but i can push the rear peg with my had and it seems to travel very easily,

Stator, VR, engine light coming on randomly and now suspension in the last month.

Im not impressed.

3,000 miles OMG! Do you have any warranty left? Is the bike stock? Does it have the harness?

Sounds more like a broken spring or spring mount as the spring controls the ride height. Hope its something simple and cheap/warrantied for you.

Anyone have ideas on why after my stator and vr died and were replaced ECM is now throwing codes (historical) for fuel system and front o2 sensor?

Also found a fair amount of fluid on and in my belly pan from area of the stator repair. Seems it did its job and dealer is now looking for the leak,

Steering head bearing were loose but they cant find issue with the shock atm. They tried to tell me the clank i heard before rear went soft was my keys -(

When the stator went your voltages would have been very low, when that happens all sorts of sensors will go out of range and throw up error codes... it may have been as simple as that.

I think you need to find a new dealer... between the oil leak and the "keys" comment I suspect they may be struggling..

they are trying their best but with so few sold its new to them,

Next nearest dealer that knows 1125s would be in Barrie a 500km one way ride.

Ratgin - 500km to barrie? Where do you live - up in North Bay? Haven't dealt with Barrie yet, but I'm not at all impressed with Rocky's in London, and Jacox in Mississauga hasn't been stellar either.

I'm out 6 weeks of riding this summer (and subsequently 2 cancelled trips to the Dragon) due to 2 clutch weep failures.

My S1 had the recall shiny can shock, that POS blew seals regularly for several gpsuspension.com rebuilds until I got the Penske from them.

The S1 shock design was fundametally flawed and blew seals because of design faults (including ALL the recal versions). The shock would flex once it reached maximum extension and this is what blew seals regularly. Aftermarket shocks dot he same but are at least fixable.
The standard Showa 'shiny' tube frame shocks were also never designed to be rebuilt and were a 'throw away' item once the seals went.

The 1125 is a completely different animal and should NOT be doing this. Check the rear shock very carefully because you should not be able to push the suspension down by even 2 inches by hand, so it sounds like something has broken : ( This could be the spring or a mounting point (although both of these would make the rear end collapse or sag badly and could be seen quite easily.
Either way, don't ride the bike until you know th eanswer!

Have them look over the shock carefully. "clink" sounds like an external metal part - maybe either the preload adjuster itself, or one of its adjusting posts, came loose. It could "look" fine, but you might not have any adjustment.

Yeah. It's a shame Erik and the Elves don't know how to build those Showa shocks the right way...

Yeah. It's a shame Erik and the Elves don't know how to build those Showa shocks the right way...

It isn't the Showa shocks fault, but a design flaw with the way the shock worked in 'extension' on the tube frame Buells. Even the most expensive aftermarket shocks will eventually blow the seals because the shocks flex, but at least these can be serviced and repaired. The OEM Showa shocks on tube frame models were designed as a non rebuildable unit that was never designed to be broken apart to fix leaky seals. Remember there were three versions of the Showa shocks issued due to breakages and weakness, and before that we had the WP debacle, so the 'fix' was never a major issue in terms of seals, as most of the shocks weren't on bikes long enough to fail!

Just because Erik designed it doesn't always make it a good flawless design : ) If the tube frame rear suspension design was a great idea why is not used now?
Other bikes have used similar underslung rear shocks (Voxan, Britton, Bimota) using a variety of methods to actuate them, but none have been too succesful other than Maybe Britton, and that was for race use only.

the rear suspention on the tubers is not used now - as tech has progressed over the years , and I dought if the swing arm on them could cope with near double the out-put of the rotax motor, Though I would have a x1 / s1 in a heartbeat, ive done the xb thing and did not have much luck.

Well they cant find any oil leak even though the belly pan was coated.

They cant find an issue with the shock even though i can use my hand to compress the rear via rear footpeg

the engine codes since stator change are varied and historical so they cant figure out why they are popping up each week.

All they found was loose steering head bearing.

Sooo frustrated.

My S1 Penske from gpsuspension.com was built from an unassembled kit and modified for my weight and riding style. I watched Dave put it together! He even made a custom jounce stop out of some type of delrin(?) on a lathe.

The people selling suspension parts without prior knowledge of riders weight and riding style are most likely getting the wrong valving and spring(s).

They are trying but so few 1125s (mines only one on road) that they havent worked on many,

The other dealer (who sold it) is about 500kms away so i have to be patient i guess
