I'm planning on buying a utility trailer. 5x8 is a pretty common size and there are some reasonably priced trailers in that size. Obviously one bike will fit fine on a 5x8 trailer, but what about two bikes? Is it likely that I'll be able to comfortably and safely put two sport bikes side by side on a 5x8 trailer, or should I look for something wider?

I've seen three smaller sport bikes fit into one more than once. you don't want to know how many I've seen in a 7x14.... also depends a lot on if it's an open trailer or a van trailer

It would be an open trailer--a mesh utility trailer with a fold-up ramp.

Yeah, I've seen a lot of bikes wedged onto a long trailer. I had my SV1000S shipped from New York and it showed up on a trailer with 7-8 other bikes crammed onto it. The bike showed up looking great, though, so no problem with the tight accommodations.

You should not have any problems.

5x8 is plenty wide enough. You can fit two on a 4 foot wide trailer, but tie down points become a problem. A 4x7 with front chocks would work great.

Thanks, guys. I'll pick myself up a 5x8.
