Anyone else noticing that their CR w/ high bar throttle effort is a bit more than "normal"? Mine has always been a bit tougher than a typical sportbike, but lately it is starting to get a bit too tough.

Any suggestions? I tried some cable lube a few weeks...it made an improvement, not quite to a normal bike status, but the effects were short-lived.

Who put your bars on and routed your cables? Routing is HUGE on this setup. Do it right, it feels just like stock. Do it wrong, you get binding and all sorts of nastiness.

I installed the bars/routed the cables. I went over it and over it. Not sure exactly where I could have binding.

Any suggestions/pictures of where to look specifically?

Mine were factory fitted ( 2010 CR ) and they are definitely a lot stiffer than my 2008 R, even after a good lubing - it is the nature of the beast.

Not in my experience with dealer installed highbars. They were always smooth, easy to twist, and never bound. I couldn't tell the difference between them or the other 3 Buells in my stable.

I hated them anyway, I'm glad I conned Brumbear into swapping! : D

So wait a second, we now have something a dealer did better than the "elves". This is crazy.

Froggy,
Gonna ask the stupid question: any recollection of how the cables were routed?

I did some investigating tonight. I pulled everything apart, lubed everything and the only place I can find a problem is right where the cables come out of the frame and go behind the left fork tube. Where the cables sit there behind the headlight is where I found my cables to bind. If they are too high or low they bind. They need to be just in the "sweet" spot.
I found this by just moving them around with my fingers while snapping the throttle.
I do not know if this is everyone else's issue, but I suggest you try it before you go tearing your airbox and front end apart(like I did!).
I would have taken a picture, but its impossible to see. You just have to feel it out.

Hope this helps some of you guys.

Jay,
My cables have a zip tie there. Brum insisted on it. There is a spot on the harness cover designed for a zip tie. Without that zip tie we were experiencing throttle input while turning the bars.

The investigation continues.

Like Jay says the trouble spot is right at the steering neck, if it isn't 100% perfect you will get binding.

Also, my dealer is (usually) competent, so its possible they did something the factory didn't.

Yugi,
What does that look like at full RIGHT turn?

Very interesting, haven't seen them routed like that before.

There is enough slack to turn it fully to the right. I have no problems with that.

I routed mine the same! took a while to get it working smooth but this route worked perfect!

works great! only issue I run into is I have to move the cables out of the way to get my fork lift into the hole of the lower tipple.

Where do they go from there? In the stock location zip tied to the electrical harness area?

well I gotta be honest Anthony has got a point the throttle on his 09 is harder than the 08.The triumph throttle is like butter but my 09 throttle is about the same as his. I just don't have anything to compare it too. The mystery continues as there is nothing binding and all seems well but it's definitely harder compared to other machines that were available.I am gonna start checking 09's in general we got a bunch of em in the group.
