I've been offered a straight swap for a (very) low mileage Ulysses... I must admit I've always wanted one so I am tempted.

I recently bought a ZZR1100 (ZX11) so the need for power/speed can be satidfied through that and the Uly will handle more than adequately for my needs..

I realise that this is an 1125 forum, but what do you think?

The Uly has only 1500 miles from new, a fair few less than my R, it's got a few of the usual upgrades on it. It is 3 years older than my R (2006 to my 2009).

I wouldn't change the R for any other bike, but I've always hankered after a Uly so this is a tough call..

if it was your only bike..i would think long and hard about the kind of riding i do before making that decision.

but since you already have another liter plus liquid cooled sportbike(ish), i would do it.

of course, the other bike would have to be in good condition and all that common sense stuff.

It's immaculate, looks like new!

I wish I hadn't mentioned my admiration of Ulysses to the owner now!

It's a really tough decision, thankfully i am going away on the R this weekend so have some time ti mull it over..

I'd dump the ZX and get the Ulysses. I would never give up an 1125 for a XB. The XB is a totally different kind of bike, it is great if you like going slow, burning your leg, melting voltage regulator connectors, piss poor lights, awkward riding position, hard to steer in parking lots, and having to explain to people why your fan is running 4 minutes after you parked it. If you really want a Uly, at least get an 08 or newer, they fixed some of the bigger issues including the oiling system. That said, the seat on it is nice. : )

I'd trade an 1125R for my 07 Uly in a heartbeat.

And from a financial perspective, its probably a good deal for you as well... when Harley was blowing out the 1125's for $6k new, the Uly's were going for much more than that.

Err, that isnt clear. Given the choice of an 07 Uly or an 1125R, I'd take the Uly every time.

It's less motorcycle that does more.

I bet Froggy doesn't appreciate a good Cuban cigar either. ; )

They smell nasty and cause cancer. Nuff said : )

Oh and last time I checked, my 1125 will do anything a Uly will do except get 75mpg. The 1125 is just an all around better bike, you would be nuts to replace it with a Uly.

TBH I had an X1 before so I know the old HD motors are "OK", admitedly the Uly has a bit more power than the X1 did but I'm aware of the "shortcomings" of that mill..

It's definately not a simple decision, financially they are pretty close.. I was lucky enough to get a firesale 1125 so I'm not taking a hit there..

I haven't ridden the 1125R in over a month, I've been using the ZX11 since I bought it, mainly as it as hard luggage but this weekend I'm taking the 1125 away so maybe it'll rekindle things

I had a ZX11D and that bike was a challenge to ride. In a straightline it was fine but the handling left plenty to be desired. It was also top heavy as hell! With a full tank of fuel it liked to tip over and lock the steering, making it very easy to drop at parking lot speeds. I rode my friend's ZZR1100 and that bike was an improvement over the ZX11D. However, it was still the heaviest thing ever and it was very tiring to ride fast on a twisty road.

The 1125R and the Ully are way superior in handling and ergonomics. I would trade the ZZR1100 for the Uly if that were me.

That's not an option (financially) as the ZZR was a "steal". I've added renthals to it and the handling isn't actually that bad at all... I'm used to "big" heavy bikes and even 2 up and loaded with hard luggage I can throw it around, it's stable and tracks well so I'm very happy with that..

I'd love to be in a position to own both Buells but can't see that happening just now..

I've just got back from a weekend away on the R and I'm no closer to making a decision. The bike performed perfectly over the ~500 miles.

Traffic made the trip "interesting" but the largest proportion of it was covered at speeds around 100mph... I'm not 100% sure that a Uly would have been happy doing ~100mph for long-ish periods..

Especially as there were a few instances of 140+mph to catch up with the pack (I was tail-end charlie)

On the flipside I did spend quite a bit of the trip monitoring the voltages as my voltages at ~5k have dropped from 13.7 to 13 now..BUT.. I stopped for fuel and cigarette breaks 3 to 4 times and the bike always started right back up and the battery voltage light only came on once..

I think I'll probably hang on to the R.. It just goes, stops, handles and sounds fantastic and although I love the looks of the Uly I think I'll wait til next summer and get one as a stablemate for the R....probably...I think..

I did an even swap last year ... my 2009 CR for a 2009 XB12Scg ...

I'm very happy with my swap ... no more stator worries, no more right leg and foot cooking in the summer.

I saw on Craigslist the guy I traded with has put the CR up for sale ...

If it was an 08 model I would keep it, but as it's an 09 ...
