So on my 2008 1125R I have a 2009 Speedo because Wildfire Harley in Villa Park is well slow to put it nicely. Long story short instead of replacing the speed sensor I asked them to replace after my speedo always read Zero they decided to shotgun parts at my bike and that was one of them.

Well now my Tach on the Speedo reads below Zero in the on position where the needle covers the Digital Read out.

When you start it the Tach shows 500 rpms which obviously is wrong.

So I went back to Wildfire since they are the closest thinking they'd just look at it and say "yep you need a new speedo lets get that ordered and we'll let you know when its in"

Nope they want to take my bike for 1 week of Diagnostics and then keep it til the new speedo comes in. Which who knows how long that will be.

So I called another and they want it for 2 days of diagnostics and wait for the parts so they don't have to do a tear down and rebuild on the same bike.

Anyone have any ideas what I can do so that I'm not with out my bike for X amount of days, or months?

Id get the extended if you can. One stator going out and your half way to breaking even. If it causes the bike to be in the shop for more than 3 days you made money on the rental

Inaccurate.

An individual dealer may CHOOSE to issue a loaner motorcycle, but nowhere in the warranty contract does is specify an automatic loaner.

Flea bay a cluster or just purchase a speed sensor and fix it. For crying out loud how many things can be bad!!! that you'd need to do any diagnostics, nothing works right no codes the dash is bad i DON'T THINK EVERY SENSOR IS BAD THE ONLY OTHER THING YOU CAN DO IS MAKE SURE ALL THE HARNESS CONNECTIONS ARE GOOD AND NO OXIDATION.Oops hit caps lock again sorry not yelling.

I'm having a problem with an intermittent speedo to zero error. A search found a thread about cleaning the VSS but I haven't done it yet. I don't know about the tach going to zero though. Maybe you need a cluster and a VSS. On a side note, I have very little faith in Wild Fire service and much more in Chicago HD in Glenview service.

Gofastalot99

The funny part about wildfire was the email about how outstanding there service was and if I was ready to purchase a Harley from them.

I wanted to reply but I wouldn't have been pretty.

So Glenview is good? If it is I will take an hour ride to take my bike to them.

Brice, you just dented this he'll out of my spirit. Ive really been looking forward to that new cluster with the voltage readout....now it looks like if what happened to you does to me, I've got another month or 2 of waiting. Just hope they get t before august, that's when I take it back to Iowa and get ready to become a civilian again.

For Buells, Glenview is OK as is McHenry. I learned though that if the bike is still rideable have them look at it, order the part, then you can come back. Otherwise you may not have the bike for a while.

+1.

If it is not a safety issue or a "dead bike" issue...have them diagnose and GIVE YOUR BIKE BACK so you can ride till the part comes in. Nowhere does it state that the bike has to remain in-shop while waiting for parts, especially parts that did not require major surgery to diagnose.

yes on riding while waiting. i've ridden a blown slave cyl while waiting. if yours is like mine kirk you can now that it's been diag'd and ordered. take the old one apart pull the needle off. then plug the thing back in to let the tach motor cycle to 0 replace needle with a little super glue...

Where did you find the thread on cleaning the vss? Sometimes I,m not that computer literate. Wasn't there also a ground wire or connection issue?

theres been some issues on grounds i believe there are three major grounding points. the vss cleaning/connector issue is semi related. i haven't taken the steps in those threads yet although i should because my vss is putting out some funny signals and or no signal frequently

For what it's worth... My dealer ordered a new IC about 3 weeks ago and was told it's due in this week.

Also - about them complaining about tearing the bike down twice (once for diag, and once for repair)... 4 mirror nuts and 2 torxs screws will get the fairing off. Then 4 more bolts and an electrical plug to get the light assembly off, and then two nuts and an electrical plug to ge the IC off. Should be a 15 min job, and any sympathetic dealer should understand that it's better for both parties for you to be riding it while parts are on order than to have you hounding them daily on progress and having your bike consume valuable shop space. Don't know off hand how much of a job it is to change a speed sensor, but can't be that bad.

Neither really says that cleaning works but both seem to indicate it is likely the sensor or possibly the IC.
