I could not be happier with this company I made a call and spoke to a gentleman by the name of Gary. He told he he will have my stator done in less than 4 hours and have it on my doorstep by Friday!!!! Excellent service I would reccomend them to everyone!!!!

You're right, I just got off the phone with Gary today and he seems to really want to help us out.

Me too. About 1000 miles on the new rewind. I had him rewind it at 2009 OEM specs, not the lower output 2008.

He asked to make sure I wanted 2009.

No issues at all with his work.

+ 1

custom rewind is great to work with, this may be the end to all the stator threads.

1000 miles and counting for me.... I am heading into the southwest desert for a road trip next week. I should have about 3000miles on my custom rewind stator by early July

When talking to Gary I asked him if he used fewer windings and he said "no", he mentioned that he stepped down on the wire (I have an 09CR).

I took that as wire size, do any of you guys recall any conversation with him about this?

So for less than a quarter of the price of a brand new (likely defective) OE stator assembly these guys will rewind.
That is great! I need to remember them if my second stator $#7!$ the bed.

sounds like the solution has been found for the ever so popular stator failures in these bikes; im delighted to hear it!

soooo for those of us with an 08R does anyone know if we would need the 09 rotor to make more power? i'd like to have a little more headroom for heated gear etc.

Richard!!!!

What's happening with your bike? Is it the stator? I dominated 197 on the way home. We need to get the 1125 sorted out ASAP. First half of June IS the best part of the year.

Gschuette - How dare you show up here, you and your R1.....Ha Ha!!

Yes my stator is smoked, it is probably being rewound at this time, but a soon as I get it back it's going on the Buell, that day.

Do you miss seeing me in your rear-view mirror or something?

can they re-wind the stator after it's cooked like that? Or do you need a good/working stator to use?

After all tis time, do we have a failure mode? That is, are the units failing because of poor insulation (varnish), insufficient wire size? When the rewind company gets them, are they really failed? It would be great to know exactly why they have failed. We had a posting several months ago where the poster noted that most stators returned to Harley were not failed. Anybody able to add to this? Thanks!

Black - I am one of those that the stator DID fail, I performed the tests myself per the shop manual.

Why are they failing...."HEAT". I think the coating that Gary puts on them will hold up much better and the quality of the windings are probably better. He told me that the coating he puts on these stators is baked at 400°, I'm thinking this should hold up pretty good.

Thanks Finedaddy1,

Appreciate the info. When I got my 09 I let the stator hysteria get to me and cut back on riding it. Didn't want to get caught on the side of a mountain in west beejesus. I have seen a couple of photos where I thought the stators had burned through. I have also seen photos where the things were supposed to be failed but looked brand new. Dark varnish doesn't necessarily mean it's bad or every 100 horse power motor in the world would be burned out. Really appreciate hearing from someone who tested the stator first. I am lucky to have three really excellent dealers in my area. My dealer told me to run the hell out of the 09 and that they had 100% confidence in the "fix" that they installed. I keep wondering if that fix might be even more beneficial with a better rewind and dip and bake such as the referenced company is doing. I would have loved to see resistance readings on some failed stators and be actually able to see where they failed. Thanks again for your input.

I tested my stator as well and one leg was putting out less than half the voltage of the other two. It also showed more resistance. I even told the dealer that and they just replaced the battery, then it died a few days later.

I would not put much faith in anything that Harley has to say or has any hand in.

I had a failure today with an upgraded Stator and upgraded Regulator from Custom Rewind. I was not able to confirm what the failure is, but the battery is new. Battery light came on at stoplight after about a half hour ride on the highway (70ish). I'm going to call Custom Rewind tomorrow and see what they say. Supposedly they warranty their parts for 1yr. I hope their customer service is good, I was heading to Deals Gap next weekend! I was really hoping that this fix would put this issue to bed, but I guess not! This Buell issue really sucks!

Do you still have the "harness upgrade" installed? If so, this and not the stator or VR may be the cause of the low battery.

I suggest you verify that the stator is functioning properly. Charge up the battery, unplug the stator connector with the three yellow wires under the seat. Start it up and rev it to 4K rpm and check the AC voltage between one of the three stator wires and the other two. Do this for all three wires. It should read around 50 Volts if the stator is functioning properly.

Please post the results here. We're all interested in finding a solution to this problem. It does suck.

I will check in the AM. The new Stator has less than 3K Miles I believe. The Bike has 23K on chassis and about 7K on an 09' Motor and wiring harness. I purchased the Bike about a month ago with the mods done by previous owner. He confirmed that the 'harness mod' was not part of the upgrade, just the 09' harness to match the motor/ECM change.I will check the output and post up tomorrow.

Htekwo, so you have a 08 bike with 09 motor? Post a pic of under the riders seat and we'll tell you if the charging harness fix is there or not.

So what kind of regulator is on the bike? I'm not convinced an aftermarket regulator is necessary.

OK, I checked the voltage coming from the three yellow wires (input to voltage regulator), and I got 0V on all three legs at about 4K rpms. I got 1.5 on one for a few seconds, but then it went to 0V. I assume this confirms that there is no output from the Stator? Is there something else I should check before I take it to the shop?
