I am thinking about buying a used motor off of ebay and rebuild it with some mods for road racing. I'm thinking that if the motor was running when the salvage guys took it apart it should be good enough to rebuild into a race motor. Please give me your advice on this or any alternative you might know of. | ||

Jim, I understand. But is E-B-R still building motors out of the their shop. I would ask them first before buying anything. However, right now is probably not the best time to ask, and I'm not in too much of a hurry. Although I do want to have a new motor before the end of summer. There is also that thing about building your own motor. Buying another motor would allow me a spare in case my plan blows. BTW I do still plan to cross the state line to ride at your track. If the offer still stands of course I would like to ride your bike, and get your opinion of mine. | ||

If you are a licensed racer... and I say that knowing you are... it's worth your time to talk to e.b.r. about a replacement motor. Oh, and of course you are welcome over here... July 4th weekend, maybe? (Message edited by jdugger on June 12, 2011) | ||

Just sent a message to Michael. I like the idea of the motor you have. I also like the low grade 1190 that was talked about last fall. Let's see if they're even in the motor business any more first. I also asked about buying parts if they're not selling complete engines. Won't make it this year! My jobs got me pinned down too much right now. But I've already started planning for a hell of a year next year. | ||

They will sell a motor to a racer, I'm pretty sure. The 1190.* is $$$, so I just went with a new 1125r motor. The DSB-Spec build includes decking the heads and timing. Along with a race exhaust, you can expect dang-near 150 at the wheel on 93-pump fuel! After you put the bike on a battery, bodywork and street parts diet, you are looking at a ready-to-race bike in the 375lb range. With the DSB motor it's just an absolute monster. |
