I have two tube-frame Buells and really like them but lately I have been looking at 1125s.

I like what I see and the only thing holding me back is my uncertainty about the availability of parts in the future.

Does Erik Buell Racing plan to continue supplying parts for these bikes?

My other question is: How much does the 1125 have in common with the new Erik Buell Racing race bikes?

I am interested, especially now since I have seen several clean examples at what seem like really good prices.

Thanks,

Dave

Will ebr continue to sell parts, dunno.
I do know harley must continue to supply for atleast 10 years when a model is discontinued. As for a stock 1125 vs a ebr race bike, well its a race bike so they are a bit different. What do you mean by different exactly. I personally dont care if in years to come parts are harder to come by, I will never sell my cr. Its a rare bike that can be a headache at times but has more character and enjoyment than just about any thing else out there.

My thoughts are I should have my 1125 fully wore out by the time parts are no longer available.

Buy it.

Ride it.

Love it.

Mine (09 CR) coexists in the garage quite nicely with my tubers and my XB : )

I own a 1125R and 5 Tubers. I will never sell my Tubers - however, the 1125 is going to be used as a track tool when the reworked clutch slave cyl from Oberon Performance is fitted.

well after clutch fluid loss last year on my 2010CR which im sure was supposed to be "sorted" and obviously wasnt, but no problems since the repair(yet).
now on my second stator upgrade harness after the first on failed, im wondering what will go wrong next

i still have my 07 xb12scg, and if i could only have one bike it would be the xb. i would even consider selling the cr to get a tuber.

I believe HD agreed to supply parts for at least 7 years. The only requirement to supply parts is for emissions related parts.

Not a whole lot in common with the 1190RS. eBay...

Maybe it will be okay but it seems that 1125s have a number of quirks that will need attention.

That's fine when parts are available but I keep my bikes a long time. (Still have the 1970 Triumph 650 that I bought new.)

Old Triumphs are sustainable because there were so many built that used parts are still available and there is a decent aftermarket.

There were not so many 1125s produced during their short production run and, while that brings exclusivity, it makes me wonder about long-term ownership.

I figure it will be easier to find parts for my XB than for my 1125, due to the similarity with the Sportsters.

However, on the 1125, once you fix the normal issues, there's just not that much to wear out. Suspension bits are pretty standard, brakes are well supported (and will likely continue to be through Erik Buell Racing), and the motor/transmission are reliable enough to not really be an issue for a long while. At that point, wrecked 1125s should be easy enough to find for motors, or you can just do a rings/cylinder sleeve/etc replacement to refresh things.

Given that I know people with over 80k miles on their motors and no issues, and people have put 30-40k of *track* miles on with no real issues (though if I recall correctly, the motor was getting a bit weak past 40k), I really don't think it's a problem.

I fully expect my motor to do 150k+ street miles, and 200k+ wouldn't surprise me one bit.

In the 10 years or so when I have that on it, *then* I'll worry about it. Ideally, by that point, there will be something insanely awesome out from Erik Buell Racing.

IMO, buy it, ride it, accept that in 20 years it may be hard to find parts, and don't worry about it now. Just enjoy it.

My 96S1 sportster engine is a rock for 25K miles then it weakens. with 94K miles on it I have seen the pattern. The way I have rationalized this subject; the Rotax is a modern design that if treated with the same level of stress as the sportster/s1 should last a very long time. When asking for 6000rpm the S1 is nearing redline, feels like a grenade. The 1125 has hit 6000rpm a few times, the bike was well beyond the legal limit and nowhere near its redline. To me driving an 1125 like an S1 (speed, performance) means the bike is never under any real stress.
