THE PLAN;

So, original plan was to have a set of custom equal length headers built that would allow for stock fitment of slipons or even the stock exhaust. A spare set of headers were purchased to be used as donor pipes.

I was gonna go bigger right off but decided stay stock size. The reasoning was to see what, if any gains could be made before going bigger and to save costs.

A dyno run was done on the bike. This was after the new stator/ harness install. As some may recall she pulled a miserable 103/63. I was gonna figure out why but decided to not touch anything so that with the new h-pipe on everything would be the same for a more accurate comparo.

THE BUILD:
So after some staffing issues the pipe was tacked together. I went in to see the look and to my dismay the new fab guy had used not only the donor pipes but chopped up the stock one as well. (Now I'll have to find a new stock one for future testing. : ( )

I sorta like the new look. Will be wrapping them both in the next few days.

THE RESULTS:
So back onto the dyno for a new pull. Temp within 2 degrees (F) in-Hg within .19, Humidity 3%diff.

99/64. So less up top but a bit more curve. This is with no tuning at all. Same fuel,(with fuel stabilizer in it) K&N, no mods and dyno and everything.

I like curves ; ) so I'm happy and am looking forward to how it will do with stacks, Barkers and PCV w Autotune.

I'll post those results (hopefully positive ones) when it gets done. I's still waiting on the PCV to arrive.

P.S.
I just checked my TPS and it maxed at 67%. Suddenly my numbers don't seem so bad! ; )

Cool thread
Sorry to hear that the fab guy went on his own and chopped your stockers up that you'd planned on using, may I ask why you left those with him? So he'd know fitment to the motor?

I like that you posted the same bike with everything the same except the header on nearly identical days on the same dyno, good information

You state that youre looking for another set of stock headers, do you think you'll be going back to the dyno with both these modded units and the stock ones after you do the TPS reset?
Wondering if the results would be different (yes, the numbers would be higher, but didnt know if that affected the EL headers to give less hp and slightly more tq)

Any further plans for the future and custom headers? Like stepped ones or anything?

Keep up the research and thanks for sharing it with us.

fine effort
these are the equal headers i made some time ago, when we dynoed a few weeks ago avalaughs bike made more power than mine and his just had one of my systems and a drummer ecm, thats not to say if he had some of my headers his bike would make a bit more, with more testing time and a proper map i'm sure we can get more power, i just got some spare headers so the next plan would be even bigger, just need time

Hybird: I would like to do a new dyno run with the tps reset. And if I can source a new pipe soon enough I will. I would rather be riding a street than a dyno. :P

I left them the bike for fitment not thinking they would cut the pipe on it since I gave them a set I grabbed from ebay for that very reason.

The original plan was to dyno stuff as I added it using stock then equal length so we can see if there are advantages to be had. I suspect that some slip-ons may perform very differently with equal length. Tim's rig for example was designed for the rear cylinder pipe length (24"-26" as I recall from talking to him) and he felt it would better perform with equal length pipes. Adam's RT-4 kit has a bit of an cross over in its design so it too may benefit from an equal length kit.

As time goes I will hopefully get my hands on some other slipons and run them to see what happens. I may try my hand at a full kit as well.

Either way without a baseline that anyone can have it all just gets lost in the numbers.

I have a Barker, stacks, PCV w Autotune and air box scoop to add and see what it can do. I wanna see whats worth it and whats not. I have always prefered 'go' to 'show.' Hence why my car has about 300 to the wheels and looks stock.

Without a true aftermarket development team we have to do what we can. ; )

If I ever win a lotto I will start up a shop that does just testing of the stuff we buy. Kinda like a Consumer Reports for go fast bits. : D

Alberta: I saw yours and it was part of my inspiration to do this. : D I wanted to keep my design a bit tighter to the stock set up.

Kinder -

Agreed...nice work, the fitting of the tubes and the welding. You even got some of the die markings realigned during welding, and the other two are close..!

Kinder,

Are you going to do a TPS reset now and make a run with the stock system?.

And do a tps reset and make a run with the equal lenght header?.

For a fair compair?.

Easy: I will when I get my hands on another stock front pipe as they chopped mine. Once I have both more dyno runs will be tried.

Pull your airbox and make sure nothing has fouled your linkage,I am betting a hose got installed incorrectly and is keeping you from getting 100% throttle.
