Ok, I know its another thread on this stuff but in need of recommendations. I bought the bike in dec. of 2010 with about 12k on the cr's odo. It already had the harness upgrade done as well. Rode the bike for a few weeks and had battery issues, but is fine now since I ride every day. Never had any issues with voltage over winter here in jax, fl. Got the ebr ecm about a month or so ago when it started to warm up, and voltage dropped quite a bit since the fans were ran more to around 12.3 to 12.5 at idle in traffic in heat. As soon as I started riding voltage went back to normal around 13.8 to 14.1. Since it has gotten hotter and im at stop lights frequently the voltage gets low at idle to around 12.1 at the lowest when fans kick in. So last night I unplugged the harness upgrade and voltage now peaks really high unless im just not use to the higher voltage around 14.4 or 14.5 volts. Should I leave the harness unplugged or just shut up and ride the thing. Its my commuter bike so it gets a bit of punishment in the florida heat/ lots of stop and go.

14.4 is not unusual while cruising. I removed my harness a few weeks ago and my voltage at idle is now 14.1 almost always. It varies while cruising between 13.5-14.4. I'm going to have my stator rewound and leave the harness off and use the stock voltage regulator. We shall see if the stock stator is really a piece-o-crap like I believe or if the 1125 just likes to cook stators.

You commute in Jax? You are a brave man.

Really that's your call.. The harness "upgrade" was voluntary so taking it off is no issue (from a warranty perspective) but it was designed to prolong the life of the stator so you're increasing the risk of stator failure with it off...

It's just hard to tell how big an increase in risk that is (which is why it's hard to give advise to anyone else one way or the other).

Mine is still on (the harness) but I'm not in stop/start traffic much... I think if I were then I'd take the harness off and see how it goes...but that's just what I'd do - not advice for anyone else

I actually live in jax so riding anywere tends to be a hassle, the bike was out of warranty when I bought so that kinda sucked. I dont have a problem when crusing, only at idle during traffic and stop lights. Right now jacksonville is an oven, humid and smokey from fires nearby. I hate summer, bring on winter again.

Ride it.

Don't forget, with the harness came a reflash for the ECM. Don't know how it would behave with the software, but no wiring...

None of your voltage numbers would worry me. Go ride.

Sounds just like what mine did...

My CR charged fine, always in the 13.3 to 14.3 range, no matter the engine RPM.

Then one day getting off the freeway, the voltage dropped to 12.6, but went right back up into the 13's with the RPM raised a little. It dropped voltage with the rpm.

I had a new stator on the shelf just waiting for my turn...with the dead stator syndrome.
When I removed the stator cover, one segment was very dark brown with some blistering of the epoxy. The other two were medium dark..!

I replaced the stator...problem gone..! Back to 13.3 to 14.3 volts, no matter the rpm.

I had the original stator rewound for it's turn back in the engine case...!

Might want to start saving for a new stator.
My CR had just over 14,000 miles on it when mine died. Will have 20,000 on the way home tonight.
Many have died with much less miles thAn what mine had.

1_mike, did you buy a second stator to just have sit on the shelf? Where and how much? I actually thought about something like that to just insure no down time while I sent mine out to be rewound. Id like to have mine sent out to be rewound to 08 specs and remove the harness. I dont want to go without riding that long.

Put the harness back in. Your lowest voltage is absolutely normal but your highest voltage would have me worried that the regulator was failing.

I put the harness back in yesterday, i need to find a way to make the bike run cooler so the fans dont kick on as much.
