Well, I rarely post but troll quite a bit and I figured I would let you guys know my bad news from yesterday...

I was planning on picking my bike up from storage at my local HD dealership (haven't picked it up yet due to business travel) and I got a call mid-afternoon from the Service Manager informing me that the tech that was cleaning my bike in the wash bay dropped it! There is about $600 worth of cosmetic damage; heat shield, air cover, grip end, brake lever (hand & foot), mirror, etc. It sucks because I was so looking forward to going on a long cruise last night...oh well. Of course they are going to take care of it but I still can't believe it happened. I was thinking of asking for some "freebies" from the dealership but not sure what to go for...any thoughts?

maybe an oil change or a service or something most of them can't seem to get parts all that fast...

Sorry to hear that. Just to rub some more salt on the wound, my experience for Buell plastic is that they are a month-long wait through your local H-D dealer.

YOu may have more luck with American Sportbike because they normally stock plastic; except for the airbox cover and rear cowling.

Damn that sucks!

The guy who shipped my 1125R down to me in Texas dropped it in my driveway back up in Pittsburgh but he was under the bike as it fell. Only had a small scratch on the fairings so I didn't mind much. He scored the fork legs though...didn't notice it until later, should have had him pay for that.

Ouch! Odds are its going to take a while for the air box to come in, see if they will let you ride it till it comes in.

If I had a similar misfortune happen to me, I would insist on a loaner bike until mine was repaired. XR1200X maybe?

Definitely a loaner bike until you can ride yours, or let you have yours and they call you when the plastics are in. I took my bike into the dealership about 2 months ago because my tach needle slipped and they put a new one on order for me. I got to keep my bike and still riding it around on a daily basis, just shows she idles at -300 rpm. They keep calling me telling me they haven't forgot about me and an update on the back order information, but I really want that new cluster so I can watch my voltage while I ride.

Hopefully they will give you the bike back at least so your not out of some good riding

accidents happen, ask for a loaner and nothing else, you dont deserve anything more in my opinion/
I am sure they'll help you with a loaner so you can stay on the road. I just posted this this morning, but I had a part I had to wait on (seal for clutch reservoir) for a week and the dealer let me take a new HD home for the time being so I could keep riding.
Im sure your dealer will do the same for you, especially in this situation when they are the reason why you cant ride your own motorcycle.

But dont be a jerk, dont ask for anything free.

Thanks for the insights guys. Good point on the loaner, didn't even think of that. I just let them keep the bike as I will be on business travel all next week and they said all parts "should" be in. If they aren't in by Friday and the bike is not ready, I will definitely ask for a loaner...I'd really like to ride the new Fat Boy Lo...
