yep. you can put on a larger (by 5/8 inch) idler pulley, or a tensioning pulley
look up mike1125R's posts

or you can buy an R pulley and R belt from me

Yeah puzzled I spoke to you about your setup but you mentioned that It would be super expensive to reproduce. I'm bringing my 1125r out to the Poconos for the next month, Your in the area right ? ? ? Buy you dinner : )

LOL, you are more than welcome to stop by. For what you are looking to achieve (CR gearing on an R) as suggested go with a larger idler or a tensioner. You would not need the quick change pullies just a tensioner.

I had only tested this at the track until this weekend. I put 270 miles on the tensioner with no problems. I checked it yesterday and it all looked good.

When you head out this way give me a shout.

was that 270 ACTUAL or CORRECTED miles?
either way, that's a day's ride.
but let's not forget about the long-term affect on the speedo/odo, making them err by 8%, if i am not mistaken.

just another good reason to buy that Erik Buell Racing ecm you've had your eye on. ...

LOL, actual miles. I used my GPS as my speedo is waayyy off. I have the adjustable ECM on my bike. I simply need to go in and change the info for the gearing (I won't). I have not decided on my final gear ratio yet (26/76 now).

I have been running my 1125R with a larger pulley my son made on his lathe for about 7 months with no problems. I probably have 3000 miles on the setup. Yes it is easy to wheelie with full throttle in first, and second gears (maybe more), careful use of the throttle is mandatory. Besides the new pulley, it required a new 1125CR belt and rear sprocket. I also had the ECM re-calibrated by Erik Buell Racing for the 1125CR gearing as part of a flash upgrade. The details are in this link:

http://www.buelletinboard.com/forums/showthread.ph p?16265-1125CR-belt-and-sprocket-conversion&highli ght=pulley

My son can make another pulley if you are interested. There was a spare pulley available on the forum about 8 months ago ... maybe it is still available. If you are interested in further details I'll try to provide them.

I like the idea of getting around the swingarm swap. Saves not only for the high cost of the swingarm but also the predicament of what to do with a black swingarm on a blue frame 09 R. Nice!

Tougelabs,

Yes, the correct sized idler pulley will produce the proper tension on the 1125CR Belt and sprocket. Check out the link posted earlier. The original 1125R belt tension was measured with a spring scale, then various sized wooden pulleys were made and the belt tension measured. When we got a comparable value using the wooden pulley, we made the pulley out of aluminum. It has been working fine since installation. The ECM computer can be flashed by Erik Buell Racing to correct the speedometer error produced by the new gearing.

quote:

have just read so many great things about the CR gearing

I have 12k miles on my R, and 12k miles on my CR. There is nothing special about the gearing. It just feels like your R without a 6th gear, the lower 1st gear isn't noticeable in day to day riding. Occasionally the shorter 1st is nice, but those situations are few. That is just my take on it based on real world riding.

It is just preference. I thought it was great too at first, then I got the R and the CR now sits and only gets taken out occasionally.
