I *think* I've experienced it a couple times, but I'm not sure.

So the solenoid is designed to chop the throttle under certain conditions, from what I've gathered here

What are the conditions that trigger the solenoid?

What was the factories purpose in having it?

Any drawbacks to defeating it?

Thanks~!

I think on a R its 3rd around 52-55 MPH. If you go wide open throttle in that range I believe it kicks in.

No drawbacks to removing it. Get it out of there, like now.

George is right, if you go WOT in third gear at low rpm, it'll chop the throttle. There are no drawbacks to defeating it. I didn't remove the solenoid on mine, I left it connected and in place. I then secured the cable out of the way and zip tied the rear throttle blades as shown in the how-to writeup I found here on Badweb. I did it for the improved throttle feel, as it lightens the throttle somewhat and makes it smoother.

The "noid" kicks in in 3rd gear around 4-5k rpm if you crank the throttle WFO.

It's purpose WAS to pass EPA noise tests which required a specific rpm/noise level.
At THAT point, the ECM tells the noid to fire and it shuts the throttle OFF so it's nice and quiet for the test.

No drawbacks, either disable it mechanically leaving it connected electrically or totally remove it and put a 120 Ohm terminator resistor in it place.
With OEM ECM you will get a CEL(Check Engine Light) if the noid does not accomplish its task - it is monitored by the TPS.

The Erik Buell Racing Race ECMs disable the noid in software so it never fires.

It is pretty scary when it kicks in because you are ready to really haul ass but the bike falls flat on its face.

I disabled mine right after it fired on me the first time, no problems.

No drawback at all. Just zip tie the throttle as noted above and be careful when putting everything back together - watch the breather hose and the seals around the throttle bodies. Double-bonus if you remove the entire assembly you lose some useless weight.

Is it defeated with the race ECM?

Sure would be nice if Erik Buell Racing implemented the other purpose of the noid as discussed in the patent for the noid, traction control. : )

Assuming you mean the Erik Buell Racing ECM then you are correct - nothing to worry about there...

Before installing the ECM from E B R, I just popped in the resistor plug from A S B. Didn't feel like tearing the H/W out ... But with the E B R in place, it's a moot point anyway as it won't engage no matter what.

Okay, so I have not experienced it. I don't think I'm ever in 3rd gear wot and 55 mph, I'd still be in 2nd!

Thanks all

Man, where were you in 08? If you search back in time you will find thread after thread of bellyaching about the 'noid, the "surging", and now the stator.

For some reason, a number of 1125r owners are willing to go to some surprisingly great lengths to fix things with the bike that are just as effectively fixed with a simple downshift.

Okay, so found out the fun way today when I went to do a pass and got the full experience.

3rd gear + 55 mph + a hand full of throttle = nothing!

Yah, time to do something about that
