One of the bolts securing the seat in place will not be removed. It will spin but not unthread/loosen. I ASSUME the threaded fitting in the frame has come loose and is spinning with the bolt. Any ideas for getting the bolt out? I have tried putting a wedge under the seat flange that is held by the bolt and jamming the threaded insert in place while turning the bolt, but that did not work. I'd be willing to cut the bolt off to get the seat off but there is not much room to slide a hacksaw blade. Maybe dremmel tool the bolt head off to get to the problem? I'll have to "acquire" (read buy or borrow) one of those unless someone here has dealt with this in a more efficient manner. Thanks for any help! | ||

Those bolts are easy to cross-thread so that's probably what happened. You might be able to drill off the bolt head from above if you can pull the seat foam back far enough. American Sport Bike sells quick-release pins to replace the bolts that will help avoid this problem once you get it fixed. | ||

those seat pins were one of teh first things i did to my 1125. try to sneak a pair of needle-nose vice grips under the seat pan 'ears' and hold the nut-insert thingy. once you get the cross-threaded bolt removed, you can CAREFULLY drill out the offending threads, and put in a seat-pin (if there are any good threads left) or just force a seat pin in there, and call it a day. | ||

there is no room for needle nose pliers, I can barely get the blade of a small slot screwdriver under there. Thanks for the suggestions, still looking .... | ||

try to destroy either the seat base-plate or the screw head, but not both. the nutsert is replaceable, if the entire bolt is cross threaded. but my money is on that if you can drill/dremel/file the bolt head off, you can leave that nutsert in service | ||

The seat is only like $40 so don't be afraid to break it. | ||

Try an impact sometimes it works to snap the bolt loose. I had the same problem on the lower airbus screw and the impact worked for me. | ||

You might have a chance with some super glue dripped in around the nut serf. Might be enough to hold the nut while you unscrew the bolt. Another option is a junior hacksaw blade and cut the bolt. Set it up to cut on the pull. Once it's out replace the bolts with studs and nuts. Set the studs just high enough to leave threads to fill the nuts when and no more. Lock tight in place. |
