I found a Pyle 3.5 LCD Wired Rear View Monitor on Buy.com from about $50 and spent a few hours today installing it.

Besides eliminating the mirrors I ditched the LED tag bolts and made some holes for the tail light to shine down instead.

The plastic frame for the camera broke while I was handling it...I guess I was too rough...or more likely it's brittle cheap plastic...so I eliminated that too and made an aluminum backing plate for the tag and camera.

Then when mounting the monitor the pedestal fell apart instantly...just cheap. So I eliminated that too and stuck it down with some industrial strength Velcro.

I swapped out the overlong RCA cable with one from my bounty of cables and other junk and sealed all the connections with heatshrink to prevent vibration and corrosion.

I tied the camera and monitor power into the tag light power from the Buell harness and sleeved the video and power cable with Techflex and routed it along the inside of the frame so the whole installation is "factory" looking and should hold up.

I was delighted when I turned the key and everything worked...I even guesstimated the angle of the bend for the camera part of the tag backer plate.

Video is uploading. I have a slow connection so it will be a while.

After I get a chance to test it on the road I will probably change the bar end mirrors for bar ends.

Took a short ride in the twilight and it started raining hard so I turned back. But it seems to do the job. Tomorrow I will give it a good test and see.

The bar end mirrors will not be missed.

neat mod. not my style but still neat.

my inspection stickers have always been on teh left fork between teh trees. but they can be almost anywhere that is visible.
you can even stick them to a metal plate and bolt the plate somewhere to the bike.

were's your buddy in va?

So anybody know where reverse gear is? Now I got my back up camera I want to test it.

Sunny and dry today so I should have a chance to test the set up and see if I can really see anything. I have my doubts. One plus of bar end mirrors is a very wide field of view.

Very good, I fitted something like this to my Firebolt but I have recently found a helmet called the REEVU which has a passive rear view system which allows a rear view to be seen directly behind the rider, have a look on their website, it has made riding the 1125R much safer.

Thanks for the info on the helmet. Out of my price range at this time.

Took a ride in bright sun today and the set up is adequate. It lacks some field of view. I am thinking about modding a 7" monitor to fit. I like that I can see behind when in a full tuck.

Finally, the last clip. I am still waiting on the "how to" clips to upload...but here is the finished project (if they ever really are finished).

Hey Mountainstorm...

Which way did you run the wires up to the monitor?
Take long, or was it relatively simple? I want to run some lighting wires --- last year I rushed it at the end of the season, and no I want to do it properly...

Thoughts?

Mtn - Can you get the bike through inspection without actual mirrors?

Big I ran the wires along the factory harness up to the lump then I went along the inside of the frame on the left. That part of the cable I sleeved to protect it. Then I fished it around the ECM part of the harness and past the radiator fan, then I tucked it beside the horn and up behind the snorkel flange. At that point I mated to the Monitor dongle and secured a small service loop under the part of the front fairing frame where the ignition key locates. Hard to gauge how long because I was interrupted a few times and had to juggle parenting and tinkering. A few hours including modding the camera and making a mounting plate for the Jardine Tag Holder.

Stirz I believe so. The SM at the Buell shop had no problem with the idea. I ran it by him. The cheat would be to pop on some bar end mirrors just for the inspection...but I think I will just have one in my pocket instead : D

I finally stitched together the clips I uploaded and here is something like a How To Guide or tutorial on what I did...not much to it really.

At this moment it is processing. But it should be ready to view soon.
