Hi Ya,s, Was playing around with the wiring under the seat to see if I could free up some space to get a bit of a better airflow around the regulator. Noticed a white (toothpaste like powder/cream) between the regulator body and frame mounting plate.

Whats that about then?

Cheers,
John

The subframe acts as a heat sink. I suppose it could be dried up Dialectic greese

It's a compound to help transmit heat to the frame.

Yes heat transfer compound. Not the same as dialectic grease. But there's such a gap between the frame and regulator I don't see what if any good it does. Seems the only contact points are where the regulator is attached to the sub-frame.
Could be why the regulators overheat and go bad, lack of heat transfer.

In the days of overclocking, I remember using sandpaper to match heat source/sink combos' surfaces.
Two "perfectly" matched surfaces will transfer heat VERY well without compound.
