I'd rather have that semi-sport looking thing than anything Hardley sells.

So what happened to the flag-waving thing H-D loves to espouse?

I guess that was a lie all along.

Whats the issue exactly?
SOME HD dealers are selling this bike, so what?
Some dealers sell japanese brands, italian brands, and in the near future - another American brand.
Big deal.

I am happy that the HD dealers are selling these smaller units. I think HD management is getting up to speed addressing all market segments.
If HD management was up to speed two years ago this likely would have had a different outcome.

There's exactly one reason for this.

The motorcycle safety class.

It's the beginning of the end for American made Harley Davidson.

clk : "It's the beginning of the end for American made Harley Davidson."

WTF are you talking about?
This really has no real connection to HD at all other than being sold in some dealers.
Hell if thats the case then Kaw and Duc would be building HDs, right? Cause I know of dealers that sold them beside of Harleys over a decade ago.

Guys, come on, dont get your panties in a knot over this, its really nothing.
Well, no, its something, its some dealers thinking 'heres a way to get into the low end market' and selling this cheap bike to people that dont want to or cant afford a new HD

They had the Blast!

How freakin' cheap do you want to go. Those may be cheap to you but they are not entry level bikes. They're cheap because they are made where labor is super cheap, they have no environmental protection, and no worker's compensation insurance and unions.

This is how it starts. It's okay now, but where do you draw the line. H-D can't build a cheap motorcycle here in the US? Why? Buell was able to. It may not have been 100% US content but most of it was.

If anyone in here has seen how US manufacturing has been reduced and marginalized since the 1970's, you wouldn't be saying "it's okay". The erosion of US manufacturing is what is causing the gap between the rich and the poor now. This gap just keeps on getting bigger. All in the name of selling something cheap. Instead of looking overseas for cheap, why not find a way to build something inexpensive right here in the USA? It can be done but hardly anyone wants to try.

Remember the frog that sat there and died in boiling water? That's because they turned up the heat really slow. Well, that's exactly how things are happening.

I'm not blaming H-D for this as I understand it's just dealers who got the okay from H-D. But it is this kind of thinking that slowly puts us on that slippery slope.

Think about this concept when your kids are grown and are about the enter a job market where they make absolutely nothing.

I work for an aluminum manufacturer. One of our main concerns is the cheap aluminum coming from....you guessed it: China. Their aluminum is not as high quality and is quite dirty and rough but still. Cheap Chinese aluminum imports are increasing so we are trying to find ways to lower our costs and keep jobs here in the US.

Most management types just want the easy way out and outsource to save a buck.

It looks like Hybrid is the only one that read the article. It is just a handful of dealers adding ATK motorcycles to their lineup. No different than my local HD dealer that recently added Ducati. This isn't being endorsed by HD.

Thank you Froggy, at least you also get it.
Some here are so quick to rush to an opinion without actually doing the research. In this case the research was 2 minutes reading the link above.

HARLEY DAVIDSON MOTOR COMPANY HAS NO RELATION TO THIS PRODUCT

SOME dealers are deciding to sell it, just like SOME dealers will sell the Erik Buell Racing products - when that happens will you think HDMC will have anything to do with Erik Buell Racing? You bet you wont, but its the same thing.

Come on guys, be reasonable. Read. Think. Be positive. Have a great day.
In that order please : )

ATK stopped by the shop I work at yesterday. They are just trying to get their bikes into dealers. I rode that mini vrod looking bike and its ok, nothing specal. SV650ish motor. If I were a complete noob to motorcycling it could be appealing but for most people that know whats what those bikes arent interesting and are generally something that most try to stay away from. ATK is just trying to make a living like everyone else.
