Well doing a few more fixes to the bike and decided to pull the loom out as i think it has a broken cable in it. In the mean time i have stripped down my IC, i read once that it was a sealed unit, well this is NOT the case, it does have some rubber seals but not adequate IMO.   I have put it in the airing cupboard for a couple of days, and then i will be rebuilding it with a couple of packets of silicone inside and sealing it up using some translucent silicone sealer. Ill keep you updated with more pics to follow too. | ||

Interesting.... Anyone know if we can order new graphics for the custer. Mine has 'cracks' in it. | ||

Kinder, I'll try to make new background with my own design, so when I receive my new IC I'll strip the old one and see how can be do it. | ||

All sealed up now. Automotive black silicone used, all i did was run a thin bead along the orange rubber seal. A few days in the airing cupboard, then i assembled it in a room which had had a de-humidifier running in it for a few hours. I removed the vent plug from the back and filled that too. Hopefully no more trouble with it misting up.    | ||

Kinder, Thats because sealed beams are manfactured with a internal vaccum to keep oxygen away from the filimant. | ||

I'm sure any pressure will find an escape route, the loom plugs into the back and only has a rubber boot which fits over the IC. Plus i live by the coast, and we dont have many mountains here in the UK. | ||

So I guess there is no effective warranty fix for misty IC? It is a design flaw apparently and I presume HD is in no hurry to redesign this part. | ||

I was told by my dealer that fogging was normal and because its condensation there should be no residue left once the moisture evaporates back out but the cluster may be replaced under warranty if there is staining on the glass or the face. | ||

because it isn't a sealed unit yes fogging would be WNL annoying yes damaging eeehhhh i doubt it. mine went haywire a while back got a new one. the new one the tach needle slipped on.... go figure | ||

2009 1125r, first real ride of the year yesterday. IC fogging within a few miles, "Never mind I thought I will just pop in to my local Harley dealer and they will simply order me a replacement under warranty. Errrrrrrrrr.............NO!!  "Its normal Sir"......"Its a sealed unit Sir"........"Uservisable Sir and can't possibly be replaced under warranty"........."Not our fault Sir its the British weather"..........."Turn it upside down and put it on a radiator Sir". "Yeah and take two *!erkin tablets and it will be all right in the morning Sir". I've heard some b*!llox in my time and that is right up there.  Calm I thought go home and think about it. Soooooooooo.........read the thread, removed the IC (sealed unit..........arse!!). Left it in the airer over night then sealed the joint with black dum-dum paste and completely covered the vent-plug with tape. Put it all back together with a little gel pack in the rubber wiring connection. Just been for a nice ride and heh...heh no mist. Sorted, John  | ||
