if you were to tell a friend an I-4 bike, that you like v twins they say "cool, you gonna get a DUCATI?" and you tell them that you have a Buell 1125R they look at you like you have the damn PLAGUE... So i want to know your opinions on why people have so much dislike for these bikes... | ||

They are lemmings and want what everyone else thinks they want. I could get any bike I want. Even a Ducati 1198 or the Aprilia RSV4. I chose the 1125R because of its uniqueness, features, performance, and the brand. I was looking at the R1 too but I still went with this bike because it was the most comfortable, had the best wind protection (better than my VFR800), and I like Erik Buell and believe in his dream. I don't care what other people think. When I'm filling their mirrors with my twin headlights, they are probably thinking: Oh Shiznit! | ||

I chose the 1125R over the Ducati for a whole host of reasons, number 1 was the 1125R was like a Firebolt with more power. Number 2 was that I have had a monoshock 974 bevel Ducati in the eighties - the 1125R can only be surpassed by the 1190RS | ||

they look at you like you have the damn PLAGUE... Tell them their face will permanently stay that way if they keep doing that. I find that most people that criticize Buell are the ones that A: have never thrown a leg over one for more than 2 straight miles: if at all. B: compare the XB series to sportsters, or C: are followers of the I4 club, because thats what all their friends are doing. I like "Different in every sense" because I myself am "different". Ducati`s are terrible for daily drivers A friend of mine has one and he can`t ride more than about 40 min of nonstop riding I rode it and even at the softest setting its still harsh | ||

Change your friends  Like the others here, I could have any bike I wanted (and do over 20 in my shed) I had the first privately owned R in the UK, possibly in Europe, and it's the best road bike I EVER owned - and yes, I've had all the clutch 'niggles' too (several times  ) I don't care what others think, they laugh at some of my other road and track bikes as well. | ||

To the sportbike crowd , It's a harley. To the harley/cruiser crowd, its a crotchrocket. To the racer crowd , it's "only as fast as a 600 " The fact that an 1125rr led in an AMA Superbike last year wasn't enough to convince a lot of fans that the team/rider/bike was a threat. Wait a few months from now....Geoff May and Erik Buell Racing will change the minds of the world. I cant wait!! | ||

I just get blank looks when I answer the "what do you ride?" question with "a Buell". I did get one old boy at the services once say "isn't that made by Harley"; well I guess he was partly right so I just said "something like that" and his response was "best looking Harley I have ever seen".. I like the fact that only people "in the know" understand why we ride what we do, it's more exclusive than any of the more exotic offerings out there (and a lot more practical).. | ||

There are only two 1125 CR's in Denmark and me and my buddy owns them. We get crazy looks everywhere we go. I can't make one single stop without people coming over asking questions about the bike. Its just unique and looks like nothing else. Performance wise there are lots of good choices i think but its not a status symbol like a Ducati, thats why i love. Its a like a badass ducati, blue collar muscle. | ||

Rogue: I'd actually not consider myself a brand-fag (saying fag in this sense is an internet meme, so it's perfectly acceptable if you're worried about being PC). I like ALL motorcycles. And I want to own ALL motorcycles. I just happen to have two Buells that I love to ride a lot. But I am switching track bikes to a CBR and am going to spend a lot of time working on a Suzuki GT380 in the future. There ARE a lot of kool-aid drinkers here though...that's for damn sure, hahaha. i had, (well still have an xb12) and looked at the 1125 but i couldn't afford one, then when they started selling them off cheap i was able to afford one  not so long ago at a petrol station some guy said said 'whats that?' i said a buell, he was like 'nice bike' whereas some people, even some insurance companies when you tell them you have a buell they say 'who makes that?' i'd never have another i4, twins just suit the way i like to ride | ||

I choose one cause no one else i know in jacksonville, fl has a cr. Personally i havent had any bad comments, suprisingly i find more people around jax to be more interested than anything else. The duc guys i ride with like it, and the few I-4 friends i do have who have rode it find it to be a fun hooligan bike. People at grocery stores and large shopping centers come up to me and ask me about it. | ||

I like Hammer71's answer to that question!!!!!! Here goes, a bunch of us riding about in the catskill area. A fella walks up admiring the machines as we are getting fuel. Whooh what kind a bikes are they? Hammer looks at guy with the WTF look he does SO WELL and says read the f***ing tank and walks away in short order, poor MikeXLR650 is standing there and gets stuck with this bewildered fella trying to explain what they are and we are off to the side laughing like school kids it was awesome!!!! | ||

My buddies don't look at me like I'm a jack ass.... when it comes to my bike... A couple of them rode with me last year, one had an R1 the other GSXR and all they could talk about was how much torque it had and how fast I could pull away when twisting back and come out of turns fast. My R is a blast... Just wish I could make the tires last longer..... | ||

The 1125R is the best bike I have ever ridden and I can't get enough. I quite like the attention the bike brings at biker stops - one guy said "F*ck! - you stole Batmans bike - where can I get one?" Their rapid decline in availability makes them even more special... scarcity drives desire.  | ||

p.s. Jazbiz66... I have put a set of Michelin Pilot Road 3 tyres on and they feel great... some Busa riders have claimed 10k + miles on the Pilot Road 2's so I'mhoping for more than 2k which I got out of the Pirelli rear. | ||

From my experience most of the 'haters' come from the sportbike crowd - suckling the big four's tit. I won't even get into the HD crowd - for the most part they are on such a different wavelength I cannot fathom thier assless chap brains on a good day. These big four sporty bike sheep have heard how Buell had an *unfair* advantage in DSB and swallowed the bullsh*t whole. At a recent track day one of the instructors was quick to slag my 1125R off, but, oddly wouldn't accept an invitation to try it out for himself. Its as is if there is some queer loyalty with the big four bikes - made 4000 miles away. Nevermind that every Buell out there was conceived, built and delivered by an American whose ingenuity and tenacity to succeed represents all that makes (north) America great. So much for supporting those we should aspire to be like. F*ck em. And F*ck HD too. | ||

You know, I guess my experience has been different than a lot of you. I have had lots of questions and good response and interest in the bikes from the sportbike crowd. Other than my home HD shop in Alaska, the Harley crowd has been less than friendly. As measured by the totally unscientific "wave" method, lots of people on sport and adventure bikes wave and some even stop at gas stops to look and ask questions (bmw riders are an exception and I think they are subconsciously harley riders). Harley riders don't even tend to acknowledge my existence, well unless I am riding the electraglide. Then I would just as soon they leave me alone! | ||

In my experience most people compliment me on my bike. Only one guy has challenged me to a race because he thinks my 1125r can't keep up with his GSXR1000. Other than that everyone thinks it looks sweet and sounds even better. A lot of people want to ride it, but NO ONE will ever ride my prize possession but me! I guess that the fact that I'm in the army and all of the riders I interact with are Soldiers has something to do with it. We are more in the club of "riders" than sport bike riders or harley riders. | ||

I've found that non-riders appreciate the Buell, if you explain to them that no...it's not Eye-talian. BMW riders appreciate Buell. "Brand Riders"...don't. They sit at the "cool kids" table and everyone else is wrong, just ask 'em, they'll tell ya. Buell...is the "wrong" table to sit at in the cafeteria. Screw 'em. I ride what I ride because *I* like it. Don't tell me my bike is s#!t, and I won't wax you too bad when you try to follow me up the mountain road. With a passenger on board. And my saddlebags filled to the brim. You wanna run me on the straights? Enjoy yourself. I'll be up in the mountains having fun.  | ||

I don't have an 1125 (yet)...but since it has gotten warm there are a lot of people out riding...everywhere I stop people come over to look at my Lightning and talk about it....very good feeling...and a suprising number of people that I would just assume were squids are in the know and are complementary. | ||

Ducati's look sweet but that 'sound' they make is just horrible. If I was going to pay that much for a high-end sports bike, I sure as hell wouldn't want it to sound like the transmission was going to go any minute. 1125R caught my attention in the showroom and I had dreamed about it for over 2 years until I finally paid off my other bike and bought the R. I love it! Had some minor issues but have never had Harley tell me NO to fixing anything on it and they are more than happy to help me even more so now that they cut themselves from Buell. Great design, great performance and I would never sell mine. | ||

That "terrible" sound Ducs make is the dry clutch. It doesn't help that many Duc owners put the clutch cover with lightening holes in it, which invite dirt into the plates and makes the sound even worse. Ducs with wet clutches don't make that sound. Ducs with proper clutch covers don't make that sound either. But dry clutch Ducs with opened up clutch covers is about as common as H-D with straight pipes! It's the in-thing! | ||

I get a lot of really positive comments, but only since Harley axed Buell. I get more flack for my Victory, "Hey nice bike, is that a Harley" "no it's a Victory" Smile drops from there face "oh." and walks away, or "dude next time buy American" and worse from the guys who dress like the village people rolling their Harleys.
