while i have my frame off doing my valve adjustments Id like to get some advice on the easiest/safest way to remove the paint from my frame...i think the polished frames looks awesome and Id like to do it. | ||

I done my swingarm, that stuff is a pig to remove. I remember reading about some aircraft grade paint stripper which done the trick ?? | ||

SCOTTORIOUS--- all a can say is be ready for a project here..... i did it with aircraft stripper... the main parts of the frame.. ( where your legs rest) was like butter.. spray on wait, five mins... wipe off.. HOWEVER THE REST IS A PAIN IN THE ASS!! I WOULD NOT DO IT AGAIN. if you have the tools to sand.. polish and you like tedious projects that will test your patience. go for it.. HOWEVER I RECOMMEND THAT YOU GET IT SODA BLASTED.. soda blasting is the safest way to remove the powder coat and will take the least(if any of the material) from the frame.. my .02  | ||

B-17 sold by Benco sales. Its an industrial powder/paint remover. Will have your frame to bare metal in less than 10 minutes | ||

But how does it work on CAST surfaces?? Cause that's the problem... NO GOOD EITHER!!! I used it on my front rim!!! Cast surfaces are Rougher than others and it gives the powder coat a surface to really bond to... Being there are little nooks and crannies in the rim... And frame... Trust me I've tried every "industrial strength" paint and powder coat removal out there.... GET IT BLASTED IT'S BETTER FOR YOU AND THE PRODUCTS... | ||

B-17 is made to remove powder from all metals and works great on cast, doesnt replace blasting as the part still needs to have a profile for paint/powder. But as a powder remover there is no equal. Have stripped numerous cast wheels as well as my frame with no issues at all. Sure you tried the B-17 ? Not trying to be an ass but this stuff is used in almost every custom Powder shop in the country and there is almost nothing this stuff wont strip (line X/ Rhino lining takes forever) | ||

Could you powdercoat (or paint?) silver over the existing powdercoat? Get very close to the same look a lot easier! | ||

I have done it a few times now. Get the Jasco (Bix stripper) heavy duty.. (Home Depot and Auto Paint and Supply have it here as well as Biglots/oddlots in gallon cans and spray cans. Or use permatex gasket remover Part #80646 is the correct part number. I learned about this online and it really works well. IMO Best I have ever used. Fast as well. don't get that stuff on anything you dont want stripped... powdercoat as well. The permatex gasket remover 80646 stuff is my favorite. even strips wheels with ease... DO NOT get prematex 80645 it does not work ... The B-17 works great as well Its just not locally available to me. (Message edited by xoptimizedrsx on February 19, 2011) | ||

If it's in a bag, probably polyethylene. (trash bags) If it's in a bottle/jug, most likely polypropylene. (milk jugs) BTT |
