Anyone ever notice system volage flash on the cluster for like a milli second when bike turns over to start?

I have.

My bike is a 2009 R with 8500 total miles. Harness "upgrade" at 3000miles, New R/R at 4000 miles, new stator at 7000miles, New Battery just installed at 8000 miles.

No issues with riding and it is starting right up despite this quick message. volts when riding around always high 13 or 14

The only code it is showing is P0193 fuel pr sys error.

anyone else? thoughts?

thanks, todd

While I don't own one yet, but I think I can help in theory, I would imagine that the bike is sending all of it's available power to that power sucking starter, to turn over that big beast.

What is your voltage at before it cranks over and after? Weather and temperature can be bad on a battery.

Sorry I wasn't helpful for your questions, but I hope that puts your mind at rest a little bit.

The voltage light comes on when voltage < 12V, when the bike starts the starter takes alot of power, so the voltage can go below 12 v momentarily, once the bike starts up the stator sends power back into the battery and the starter is not on anymore, so the voltage goes above 12V and the voltage light shuts off.

Instrument cluster display, not the little battery light. I understand the heavy load to the battery, voltage drop.

Im just curious if anyone else has observed the message SYSTEM VOLTAGE flash for like a milli second as the bike turns over and explodes to life

Had that happen a couple of times when the battery was low. I also had the P0193 setting and that ended up being a faulty fuel rail pressure sender. Get the battery charged up to 12.6 to 12.8v and see what happens.

I get the SYSTEM VOLTAGE message fairly often, at startup. It's happened ever since the bike was new, and I've had it for about 2.5 years.

Tbowdre - Yes my 09 cr 2x last summer with the heat of urban riding. I killed it at a turn regulated intersection on hwy 99E... same display and wouldn't restart I walked it off the roadway. I waited a few minutes and made a 'one last try' attempt. It fired up! TYJ!

When I got home the left pod cover came off, 'issues' pretty much went away with -s t o c k- setup.

The trickle charger folks insist you can have your cake and eat it too.

Ironically, I've had the SYSTEM VOLTAGE message a couple times in the last 200 miles since getting the harness upgrade and, lately, the stator replaced. But both times was when I had been underway a short time after making a first stop in the morning so, sorry, this is not the same as the OP's problem.

All the symptoms indicated an overvoltage condition each time. But I was able to stop the engine and restart it with no further anomalies for the rest of the trip both times. So, I think there may still be some kind of problem with the Voltage Regulator but, unless it hard-fails, the problem is transient and difficult to convince the dealer's service department that something is wrong and fixable.

Sparky= Thats a voltage regulator Mine did the same bullshit when it was over voltage.
Right after i had the harness put in 7,ooo miles since no more issues.
yes tbowder mines does it normally after a couple start stops short jumps just the starter dragging the starter down.
I am guessing the high thresh hold for Voltage error is 19 volts low is 10

Mine is a brand new battery. Voltage before starting is always 12.6-12.8

I might try to start in DIAG mode and see what the volts do....

maybe it is okay (as suggested) and my IC is just reporting the normal voltage drop associated with turning the starter

thanks
