Picked up a set of Pirelli Diablo supercorsa SP tires from Erik Buell Racing and had em spooled on by Glendale HD/Buell. The GPR stabilzeer arrived today. Tomorrow morning: WRENCHES! Sunday morning: TWISTIES AND EGGS! (and then more twisties).  | ||

Too early for me to tell what kind of mileage I'm going to get out of these. I've been busy logging miles on the CR to wear out the stock Diablo III so I put the Supercorsa SP on her as well. The Supercorsa SP(not to be confused with the SC1, SC2, and SC3 race compounds) is the OEM tire for the Ducati 848 & 1198, and Aprilia RSV4 Factory. FWIW, I bought a new Pirelli Diablo Strada high mileage touring tire that I'll swap on the rear of the XB for roadtrips. Nels | ||

The SP tire is a regular street/sport compound in the mold of a DOT race tire. It's probably comparable in mileage to something like a DC3 or DRC sportbike tire. I'm sure it makes a fine canyon/trackday tire. I can tell you for sure it won't clear water for anything, so it's a poor choice in the wet. I run the SC2 and SC3 on my race bike. Nice tires, even if a bit prone to cold tear. I really like the front. | ||

I'm not so worried about mileage not because I'm made of money, but because I'm not. It's WAY more expensive to repair the bike and my body if I crash than it is to replace a rear tire at 2500 and a front at 4000 miles. Not to say there was anything really wrong with the stock corsa III tires - they're fine. It's almost certainly more of a confidence thing - I trust that when up to temperature (and yes, not in the wet), these will give me more grip and I like grip. It's one less thing to worry about, or rather, one more thing that will let me direct my (admittedly limited and waning) skills on all the other things that go into the successful passage through a complicated corner. Plus the 190 I'm putting on the rear (according to Shawn Higbee who was gracious enough to answer my questions on the subject), will give what he says is "maybe 5% more side grip" than the 180. Trade off is slightly slower steering, but the bike is so quick in transitions with the high bars that I won't mind a bit of that. I have slicks on used wheels (bought from exRacers) for track days. We'll see how it works out... if it doesn't, I'll post the link here to the near-new tires being sold on eBay.  | ||

If you go to a 190, you need to do a couple of things: 1. Run a 190/55 2. Add 5mm or so of ride height in the front by pushing the fork tubes down. 3. Use a 5.75 or 6 rear wheel. I tried the 190 on the OEM Buell wheels, in fact, I specifically tried the supercorsa and superbike pro 190. What I found is the profile on the OEM wheel took on more of a (_) shape instead of a \_/ shape. So, actually, the contact patch on the sides was smaller. Report back what you end up thinking of the 190. My strong preference was to stick to 180s on this bike. Shawn's comments on 190 vs 180 are accurate though. I forget the exact number, but a 190 offers something like 15% more contact patch. Of course, given the right wheel, chassis set-up, etc. | ||

I did put the 190/55 on the rear -- as recommended by an expert at Erik Buell Racing. Love the profile, love the turn in, love the grip. I'm sure I won't love the fact that this rear will be trash in 2500miles, but as I said, I'm willing to trade that off. And - if you live in places where it rains, DO NOT GET THESE. There's a fat 3" swath from the edge of the tire in that has zero rain sipes. They grip in part because of the compound and in part because there's 100% rubber (in tire engineering parlance: all land, no sea) in contact with the road surface. Great when it's dry. Terrible when it's wet. I came across some sprinkler run-off in a couple spots yesterday and just pussy-footed through em. Don't love the (effectively) taller gearing. Engine is now busier at 75mph (where's that damn 7th gear when you need one?!) | ||

Do you mind posting up a pic taken from above the tire straight downward so we can see the profile? I'd like to be able to run a 190, but when I tried with the Pirelli Superbike slicks, the 190 was clearly too large and caused the profile to take on a O shape instead of V shape. Almost all of the setup data I have for these bikes is unfortunately on Dunlop 190s. I'd like to be able to play with that info a bit... | ||

I have been using Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa for over one year now, they are fantastic tyres and even provide get-you-home grip in the wet weather which was a revelation - enjoy but make sure that you warm them up before pushing it too hard. Grip when cornering is amazing, far better than the standard tyres, for the winter I use the Metzeler Sportec M3 which warm up very quickly but are a little skitish at high speeds. I should add that the Supercorsa are the SC1 compound front and SC2 compound rear (Message edited by Dirty_john on January 18, 2011) (Message edited by Dirty_john on January 18, 2011) | ||

JD or anyone else who has tried them, what is the effective difference between the Diablo Supercorsas and the Rosso Corsa as a TD tire in terms of grip? If the same, why run the more expensive Diablo Supercorsa? EDIT: I see here the Supercorsa is about 2 seconds faster than the Rosso Corsa all other things being equal. Interesting. Two seconds is definitely worth the extra money.
