Hello all, my bike is currently stored for the winter or I would measure it. What I need is a measurement of the inner distance between the rear motor mount tabs near the back of the frame. If anyone has their motor currently out of the frame or running without the plastic heat shield on the rh side, that would make measuring easier.

At the risk of getting into trouble, it's a preliminary check into finding out how difficult it would be to stuff an air cooled Ducati motor into an 1125 frame (project bike #2)

I know it must be something more then 5.5" but the Duc cases can only be narrowed so much at the rear mount, so I would like to find out if it would be in range, before buying the 1125 frame.

Thanks in advance to anyone who is able to check on this

Thanks Avalaugh. Looking at some pics on the net, I didn't realize that the left mount is actually on the inside of the motor. There may not be enough room at all, but will know better once you've measured. Thanks man

135mm which is just over 5 1/4 inches inside edge to inside edge of the frame rear engine mount tabs.

WOW! I have 134mm available. I suspect that the left side mounting tab is not machined on the side the Duc motor will be mounting, so once its been flattened and made parallel to the left side, I will have more then made up my 1mm. The engine cases will be slightly offset to the right but I am sure any weight imbalance can be compensated for with other component placement. And that will also bring my rear shock linkage into better alignment. Thanks so much for your help Avalaugh
The XD9 project shall continue.

I love doing mods to my bike, but why change the engine ? for me its about the best part of the bike, would look cool with an air cooled engine as you can loose the pods, but thats the distinctive look of this bike !

Intriguied...

interesting project, how are you going to get the fuel pump to mesh up with the ducati engine, i assume you are going to use the ducati ecm and ic, so how are you going to get it to operate the buell fuel pump?

in my engine swaps -
a) chk countershaft sprocket/pulley to swingarm pivot thru suspension travel(usually causes chain to saw thru swingarm if you're not careful)
b) again countershaft sprocket to rear drive sprocket/pulley (custom offset sprocket /pulley needed to clear rear tire??) or you run a skinny rear tire... good luck with your project - sounds challenging

About the above comments. If the project ever gets that far, I will be running a Ducati or Buell xb fuel pump (both have the same output and operate at the same pressure (3 bar/ 39-45 psi). If I can find an enclosed inline pump that is designed to operate at that pressure, so much to better. The fuel will be drawn from the swingarm (where it will have been cooled after having been heated in the 1125 frame LOL )The ECM would be nemesis or I believe that there is another company now making fully programmable ECM's. My current 1125r is in no danger of loosing it's motor (unless the motor has other ideas). No plans on running a skinny rear tire. I have a forged Carrozzeria 17x6 with a 190 55 tire, slowly making progress on the drive pulley adapter. I've replaced the original bearings with double row bearings to suit a 30mm axle. Chain, chain ..... chain? Two lines of thought on the front pulley I have a baker drivetrain 26 tooth puller and an 1125 27 tooth so it is more a matter of which I can adapt to fit at the lower cost. If I use the 27 tooth I would likely have to go with a cr 76 tooth rear rather then the 70 tooth r or 72 tooth v-rod stuff. Before I can make any headway adapting the swingarm, I need to do the front pulley and decide on the rear pulley so I can buy the correct length belt and then figure out exactly where the swingarm (inverted late mod XB arm) will have to be.

I use an inline CBR 600 fuel pump on one of my track bikes (non Buell) to cure fuel starvation at high speed. I think they run between 3-5 bar.
