I have 5 Suomys and a Shark, bought a Vemar on close out when a buddy who wore only Suomys told me the Vemar is more stable. He rides a naked Duc.

Took it out today and it was awesome. I've been researching helmets that incorporate wind tunnel design, the type with the spoiler on the back. This particular helmet had a smaller spoiler than a more expensive model in the line, but I went ahead and picked it up anyway.

Even up to 90mph my head was steady. Minimal head bobble in traffic and the extra bonus, it was super quiet. I forgot my earplugs, didn't need them. Can't wait to try it with earplugs in.

Vemar is made in Italy and apparently can't seem to get traction here against the other established brands. Its graphics aren't up to the level of Suomy, Shoei or Arai, but I say so what.

Probable a great help for those on Sport Tour bikes with windshields that are having problems with wind blast and buffeting.

Man, I'm I glad I got this lid. They make a couple shell shapes also, one I swam in the one I bought was just right.

Been looking for a new lid for a while now, have decided on Arai, but not sure which model yet.

Reason for Arai is simply because each size helmet is a smaller shell, i have to buy S or XS and many brands only make a few shells and fill them with thicker padding to make up the different sizes. Hate looking like a balloon head : )

How many shells do Vemar do ? might have to look into them as well now.

I really like the Scorpion helmets if you have a head that fits an Arai Corsair.

I've crashed two and had them shatter with no injury to me. This latest crash I was knocked off my bike in a corner by another rider running into me. The helmet hit the back so hard it shattered. But what was amazing was the shattering also continued to the front, meaning the helmet distributed the crash and impact load all through the shell. It's incredible to look at.

I buy the "off" styles at $100 or less since I seem to burn one to two per year. : ( I toss a helmet if it has a touch in a crash, even if it's probably fine.

I have two Vemar's I bought while stationed in Italy. Every bit as good a helmet as the established brands IMO. Kind of like the OGK helmets are to the top Japanese makers. Great helmets that are high value for the dollar compared to the more dominate brands.

I bought a Suomy Spec 1R Extreme, while the American Eagle graphics were beautiful, it was the noisiest helmet I have ever owned. Wore it one day and sent it back. I examined it carefully and thought the quality was not equal to my old Joe Rocket (HJC). I then became interested in the Vemar Patriot model until I discovered that Vemar recently moved production of all but their latest model to China. Whenever possible I will not buy products that are made in China, especially one with Red White Blue Eagle themes!
My new Shoei RF-1100 is supposed to show up tomorrow. It has the latest Snell 2010 rating, which from what I have researched is closer to the standard DOT and Euro ratings than the old Snell 2005 rating. Under the old rating the helmet could withstand a higher G hit, but at lower G hits it transferred more energy to your melon (harder styro-foam). So the new standard cannot tolerate as high of a G hit, but it transfers less energy at lower G hits (which, in theory, are more likely to happen on the road). Snell did insist on keeping the 2nd hit test, which some folks poo-poo. I think it is a good test. My last wreck involved two head hits (one on the car and one on the road), so I am glad this test was kept. It still amazes me when I look at my old Joe Rocket helmet. The crash damage is quite extensive, and all to the face/forehead area. I hate to think what would have happened had I not been wearing a good full-face helmet.

One thing to consider is helmet standards. The newest Snell M2010 standard is supposed to be very good in terms of protection. The older Snell M2005, not so much. It was well-documented in a Motorcyclist magazine article that the Snell M2005 testing standard required such a hard outer shell to pass that it may have caused too much energy to be passed through to the wearer's head.

I personally like the UK's recent SHARP helmet rating scheme. The UK government formed an independent rating system and testing procedure that tests every helmet for sale in the UK, and gives each tested helmet a 1 through 5 star rating based on how much energy is passed through to the rider's head. You'd be surprised by a lot of the big-name, big-$$$ brands that have less than 3 stars. Based on this rating, I have several Shark RSR2's, RSXs, Suomy Vandals and AGV GP-Techs.

I sold the others (Arai, Dainese, etc.) based on how poorly they did in these tests:

I just got a new Shark modular. It's pretty good, fairly quiet, and I like the fact that the chin snaps out of the airstream when you want more freedom. I also like the built in sun shield.

Had a chance to go on a longer ride this week and it seems the helmet feels larger than when I first bought it. I knew it wasn't as snug as it should be, but didn't think it was a big deal. At the time I figured if it was too large I would use it as a Winter helmet wearing a balacava underneath. I tried it that way and now its snug.

If you can, I recommend exchanging that helmet. It sounds like it is maybe two sizes too big even. If the thing isn't almost painfully tight the first time you try it on it is too big. Believe me, you want that thing as tight as possible.
