I am trying to restore my rear wheel to its original color, as opposed to the exhaust carbon black color it has become. I used regular car wash followed by Simple Green with an wheel brush. I did manage to get some of it off but still a long way from the original. Any suggestions? | ||

Last time I did a rear tire, I used either S100 Wheel & Tire Cleaner or K&N Filter Cleaner. Which ever it was, sprayed it on, let it sit a couple of minutes and hose off. I used a low pressure Hotsy - Put a hose and a plastic nozzle hooked up to your hot-water-heater, should be about the same pressure and just a little cooler. Even the disk/rotor screws were shiny. Drawkward: Thanks for the links. I certainly didn't let the Simple Green dry on anything but since it wasn't all the effective I will stay away from it anyhow. I am definitely going to buy some S100 and give it a try. | ||

There was another thread here about using Westley's "Bleach White" whitewall tire cleaner. I tried it and it works amazingly well. | ||

I spray strait simple green on the wheel, not the diluted stuff you buy at the store. Wash some more of the bike then rinse it off. Spray it again with straight simple green, finish washing the bike and then rinse the wheel again. ta-da.... The company I work for buys simple green in the 50 gal drum and then we mix it with water to dilute it. | ||

I only need to cover the wheel in 'Blech white' or however it's buchered and it takes the crud right off. You can also try 'purple power' or one of it's variants at an autozone or the like. That stuff takes off a lot of crap, but be careful not to leave it on too long or it could tarnish paint. | ||

Believe it or not, Hardly-Dangerous wheel cleaner works pretty good. WD-40 if it is real filthy. | ||

Reading the label, Armor All Wheel Cleaner sounded less potentially bad for the wheel finish than Bleche White, so I went with that. It works great. I have white wheels with the polished rims. The exhaust just leaves them looking dingy yellow after any kind of ride. Simple Green did nothing, Turtle Wax wheel cleaner still left them yellow. After Armor All, they are shiny glossy white again. | ||

There is nothing more amazing than spraying on some k&n filter cleaner, reaching for the hose, and rinsing all that crap off. all done in about 26.5 seconds. Ok there are a few more amazing things than that(my life isnt really that dull). But man I got all my friends on the k&n thing and noone is looking back. | ||

Oven cleaner from your local super market, spray on, wash bike, sponge down wheels. Don't think you should put it on anything but the wheels and swingarm btw. Been using it for years on all my bikes and cars. | ||

+1 on the Armor All Wheel Cleaner! Easiest way to clean the wheel and no finish damage after 2 years of use. | ||

Mothers powerball, the smaller size with the stem and I put armor all tire foam on the ball. Its about 20 bucks and worth every penny. I have two of them. One for when the wheel is really dirty and a second for finishing touch. Then I wipe the wheel down with a towel. Each wheel takes just a few minutes and looks like new.  | ||
