... but they didn't say how long you'd have to wait for them !

My CR has now been at the dealer for 7 weeks waiting for one seal to fix a clutch leak - they have all the other parts.

So I've been riding my R, as bikes are my only form of transport, and now my belt has snapped at 7,708 miles ! And guess what - there are no belts available at the European distribution centre ( I'm in the UK ).

Luckily I've managed to locate another at a dealer who going to mail it to me, but I hope nobody else's belt snaps in the UK as I've probably just bought the only spare in the country.

If I hadn't managed to find a belt at a dealers I wonder how long my R would have been off the road ? I would have been truly angry if both had been laid up waiting for parts.

So how's the parts situation in the USA ?

I waited almost 3 months for my dealer to get all the parts to fix my clutch leak... they let me keep the bike but it was leaking so badly that it was unrideable. When the parts finally came in and they started on it... they found out the kit was missing an O-ring... WTF!

Someone with the right tools should measure the rings and seals so we can order them from McMaster...

Brumbear got a bunch of seals for his clutch for a few bucks locally. He said they didn't fit perfect, but for a few dollars and how easy they were to swap in, it was a good hold over till the OEM stuff arives.


Parts situation will vary depending on what you want, but overall its always been a bit marginal at best, even when the company was open. HD laid off quite a few people that handle the distribution of parts, so that has delayed things further.

Personally I recommend everyone to change their belt after about 10,000 miles, then keep the old one on the shelf. This way you have a spare in the event of a break, and it is easier to install from the side of the road than a brand new tight belt.

Was it a bad leak or just the normal weap, I've been fortunate so far that my original seal is still fine But I'm hopeful that it'll only do the usual trick of weaping a bit allowing the dealer to get the parts in while I continue to ride..

I've seena few belts on eBay - I may well just pick one up as a spare now (thanks for the heads up).

So far my dealer has given me a loaner very the Buell's been in for any work, i don't think they'd let me have one for 7 weeks but TBH I'd be surprised if they could get it back off me once I had one LOL.

Jules, mine is a 2010 CR with, I assume, the latest clutch parts. There are a few 2010 models in the UK, and it is a common problem for the clutch seals to leak internally with no tell-tale sign - the first you know about it is when you pull in the clutch lever and there is no resistance and all of the fluid is is missing from the reservoir. This could well be a symptom of the latest clutch parts so it may only be a matter of time before many of the older clutches with the official "repair" start to go faulty - only time will tell !
At least with the older models the leak didn't make them unrideable - I rode my 2008 R for about 6 months before I had it repaired.

APRIL 9th 2010 i turned my 08 1125 into the shop.

Issues...

Fuel pump (which later we found out was bad due to contaminated fuel)
Clutch weep
Cluster acting goofy
Front rotor issues

The dealer ordered the parts. in the mean time they decided to flash the ECM.. the thinking was that maybe the bike was running crappy from the ECM...the HD tool somehow makes a mistake and the ecm is rendered useless.
New ECm ordered, won;t work with the original cluster, new cluster order, the 2 new items won;t pair together. Parts sent to HD. Engineer pairs the new cluster and ECM. Fuel pump replaced, bike runs.

On test ride, rear MC locks up and rear brakes are not working. Parts ordered. Rear brake fixed and then the speedo acts goofy. (the is where i think the dealer screwed up). instead of check for the VSS sensor they swap in Another cluster.. ECM and cluster won;t pair again, its the HD tool thats messing it up IMO.
Thats where i am at right now..

WELL OVER 6 MONTHS OF WAITING. the works itself only takes a day or 2 each time the parts comes in, but it takes so fricken long. Now i will say (dealer knows this) i'm over the desert working, So i'm not to mad about it taking so long to fix, but this is getting ridiculous..

I get back stateside in Jan, i'm sure SOMEHOW, the bike will finally get fixed just before i get home..

Only positive thing about all this, is the fact that the dealer has had my bike and my mom needed her garage space.. but now she is even asking where the hell my bike is... for a little while she thought i somehow sold it..

I seriously believe some of these "dealers" are providing this level of service so we don't return. They don't want bothered with these bikes. They already have our money and they want to leave it at that.

The dealer here ordered all of the parts parts for my clutch leak and had them within 3 days. That was a little over a month ago.

Same here.
My dealer had my clutch weep fixed within 3 days.
Of course there's an M2 Cyclone sitting out in front of the shop that belongs to one of the techs.

Some dealerships care, some don't give a rat's ass.

It took my dealer about a week to get the clutch parts, and about 3 hours from the time I dropped it off to get it back. The service writer at Shreveport H-D rides a Buell as well.

The clutch fix parts were not available for months, but they are now. We have one of the new improved piston/sleeve kits in stock, see http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/18048A.html . It's not a hard install, other than the PITA of having to bleed the clutch. A socket, allen wrench and vise grips work fine for the "special" clutch tool. I don't have any of the spherical nut O-rings in yet, they're ordered.

We sell amazingly few 1125 belts, especially compared to XB series belts. We've had them on the shelf for over 2 years without ever going out of stock. Most of the 1125 parts that I've ordered have come relatively quickly.

Al... please buy up all the parts you can! I've always known I could go to you for my tuber parts... and I will gladly send you my 1125 money too with my warranty expireing in the near future at which time my bikes will never see another dealership!
